2020 Democratic Presidential Nominees

Not sure if they used the Dixiecrat name but yeah. Then Reagan Democrats and now Republicans.

I’m glad he is running. If he didn’t there would be a big deal of people saying he should have.

I suspect he'd pick some different folks as examples if he had it to do over again.

Maybe not. Apparently his staff has been trying to talk him out of telling that story, along with others, and he outright refuses.

An old man who doesn’t listen to his staff and instead goes off half cocked. Sounds familiar.

I think there are two views of Biden that people can hold simultaneously.

He’s a two time unsuccessful Presidential candidate who was a Senator from a tiny state who would be known for gaffes and a plagiarism scandal if a popular black nominee didn’t feel like he needed an old white guy to help him placate white voters. He’s the past but shouldn’t be the present and future of the party or country.

He’s also a good hearted friendly senator with a good reputation known for working both sides of the aisle. He’s charming Uncle Joe who may be a little handsy and overshare but it comes from a good place. That makes him a safe option in a must win election.

I think there is tension there. I think a lot of people like him but want someone else to earn their vote.

Right. The big damning thing for Pete right now is firing the black police chief who (illegally) recorded cops using racial slurs but not firing South Bend cops who were caught on tape. Now a cop accused of using racial slurs by citizens and fellow cops killed a black man. He definitely needs to address it.

Back Home in South Bend, Buttigieg faces "his nightmare"

“How’s he handling it?” said Oliver Davis, the longest-serving black member of the South Bend Common Council. “Well, he talked to the media before the family. He skipped the family vigil, full of black residents. And then he then gave a speech to the police. So, how do you think that went over?”

Not a good look.

I wish he had run in 2000 or 2004.

I like to think that Howard Dean was a similar type of politician. I believed as much at the time, at least. What a difference 15-20 years makes in terms of what qualifies and disqualifies one from the presidency.
