2020 Democratic Presidential Nominees

Wasting the next 4-8 years on business-as-usual Biden would be a travesty.

We need a president who is willing to decisively act through executive action until Dems are able to take the Senate back.

Yep. We also need a nominee who is a sharp contrast to Trump. Biden would not be.

I just hope the second set of debates keeps the clowns on night 1 and puts the top 6 together on night 2. Don't want to waste time seeing Warren debate DeBlasio.

If I'm not mistaken, each subsequent debate has tougher criteria for participation. I think that will winnow the numbers.

What?

Because they are both old white guys?

FFS

I’m no Biden supporter but anyone who’s not a pathological narcissist and a lying sack of shit is a sharp contrast to Trump.

Biden isn't a sharp contrast to Trump? Hell, anyone named Bush is a sharp contrast to Trump. Trump is sui generis and unprecedented in American history. No matter who the Dem nominee is, if he or she wins, they will largely nominate judges from the same pool and will issue similar EOs. And the likelihood is currently that we will not get back the senate in 2020, at least if you believe Charlie Cooke or Larry Sabato. As of now, the likelihood is also not to be able to get the senate in 2022, especially if we've won the presidency (off years favor the party out of power). And even if you get the senate back, there is still the filibuster. So for things like health care that require legislation, you're gonna have to work with Pubs - so ain't no one passing M4A anytime soon.

Trump is afraid of Harris because giving her a nickname could backfire and create larger voter turnout.

It's real easy to build false equivalencies about Trump and Biden. The argument then becomes 4 years or 8 years and 4 years will prevail.

The travesty would be having Trump for another 4 years. Biden would be a return to normalcy, and if business-as-usual means an Obama-esque steadiness for 4 years that's not a bad thing at all. I'd rather have a plain piece of toast than a shit sandwich.

If you think that Biden and Warren would issue the same EOs, you don’t actually follow politics. Mr Return to Civility would avoid conflict at all costs in false hope that Mcconnell would come to the table on anything.

Return to normalcy works well for about 15% of the country, and that number shrinks with every year that the US doesn’t get serious about the climate crisis.

Doesn't matter if he/she can't win a general election.

Which ones can't win a general election and why?

Note: Trump and Obama couldn't win at this stage either.

I agree Trump appeared unelectable and should have been. A decent Dem opponent would have buried him*. Obama wasn't unelectable, he was just a long shot early due to inexperience and, of course, race to some. I'll pull the full list later and give you my thoughts. I can't name 6 of them.

* A decent GOP opponent should have buried him in the primary, too.

I think the whole purpose of the primary cycle is for candidates to show that they're electable. Just in the last week, all of a sudden Warren and Harris are more electable because of strong debate performances.

I do think electability is more up to the Democrats than any individual candidate. Dems need to make their case for progressive policies and make the case against Trump. The nominee should be the personality who can effectively carry the torch.

Not too long ago, a Dem candidate would try to equivocate a response. Pete just slams him down and calls out his BS.
