F is for Fascism (Ferguson MO)

He wasn’t dangerous enough to kill when the report came in of an armed robbery. That didn’t become apparent until he reached for his waistband in the presence of the officers.

You idiots think seem to think the police have unlimited resources and can just send out a few teams to lockdown a neighborhood on a report of an armed robbery of a stolen wallet. Think about that for even a split second. Must be nice to be a democrat. And you want to enact policies that will result in even fewer people willing to sign up to be police.

Dipshits. The lot of ya.

This is really dangerous logic. The only thing that changed between the first and second sentence is that he was around officers instead of just around citizens. So based on your logic, an armed robber around police officers is more dangerous than an armed robber around the rest of us.

So who are police there to protect? Us or themselves?

Good example of this is that there are multiple car break-ins literally every single night in Ardmore(WS) and not a damn thing has changed since this all began 3-5 years ago. Sure, maybe an extra cop patrolling the neighborhood here and there, which hasn't stopped it from happening. There are indeed limited resources when it comes to these kinds of petty theft crimes and misdemeanors.

Maybe we should expect better from law enforcement rather than giving them a pass because “lol well they’re dumb and couldn’t be anything else”

Perhaps we should pay them (and teachers) more so that we will generally get a better group.

So the argument here is that the cops were justified in shooting him in the back because they had probable cause to believe that he posed a dangerous threat to civilians, not that the cops were in reasonable fear for their own lives?

They have the resources to deal with armed robbers, yes they do. Absolutely they have the manpower and equipment to (more safely than this) diffuse an armed suspect situation. If it happened in Buena Vista in Winston-Salem there would be more than three cops casually approaching two young men they believe to be armed and dangerous.

A cop on this thread has already stated these cops didn't handle this according to police procedure.

Police clearly can kill an assailant who is actively threatening death or serious bodily harm to a civilian.

Speaking of serious harm to civilians...what happened to the 4 bullets that didn't enter the fleeing suspects back while he was trying to pull hi shorts up to run faster? where did they go? did the cops clear the street before shooting 4 unaccounted for bullets into the community? If not, that seems dangerous.

I believe that because police are trained to fire only upon a threat of death or serious bodily injury, they shoot to kill.

How does a dude running away from the police pose a threat of death or serious bodily harm to an officer behind him wearing a Kevlar vest? Even if the suspect did pull out a gun, which this kid didn't, it would require some expert marksmanship or some sweet Hollywood special effects to direct that bullet into the officer's body.

and we're the dipshits?

Between this and the death penalty thread, junebug’s got some strange fascination with state sponsored death. Like unwilling to budge an inch and purposefully arguing in circles. Dude was shot in the back.

Dude was running away. His piece fell into his loose, baggy pants which he grabbed to keep from falling down as he ran.

So the conclusion I'm reaching is that this individual is completely not responsible for his own death, except for:

He's just committed a robbery
He's committed another crime by not following polie instructions
He's carrying a gun

And we can partially blame his baggy pants that he chose to put on that day, along with the other choices he made along the way.

I'm 100% in on this.

I just have a hard time with a $40k guy/girl with an associate's degree being the decision-maker between me/anyone else and a variety of things that can kill you or totally change your life. Anecdotally, I grew up in rural NC and the cops I knew (which were most of them) were not intellectually gifted individuals. When you're paying people roughly $18-20 an hour, you should expect that kind of quality in return.
