UNC at Wake, Friday 9/13

If Shaka Smart doesn't have a standing invitation to attend any Wake football game he wants, then we are nuts.
 
Mack Brown is going to get Howell seriously injured. I don't see him surviving the season past Clemson. We beat the poor guy to death.
 
My takeaways are:

While making it a close game really bothered me last night in the light of day it does give me pleasure that Tarheel fans had hope and then we ripped it away. Been on the other side of that too many times.

I hate the way the game ended because that’s the narrative.
 
Jamie Newman now 6-1 as a starter with 5 wins over bowl quality teams and 3-0 against the Big 4.
 
Is there any wonder why we hate UNC. They bitching one second on the clock they were robbed of ended their National Championship run.

Just to make this clear for everyone, this post isn't hyperbolic. I went over to IC (mistake) and there are actually posters talking about how the refs robbed them of a national championship. It's fucking nuts.

I'd use the backup center for this role. You know he has decent hands, so you could hand him the ball as well as having him block.

I understand Rutgers is trying to schedule UNC-CH for homecoming on a permanent basis.
 
I seem to recall that we have lined up a TE as a FB. No reason we can't do it again... especially if what were continuing to do hadn't been successful. This absolutely NEEDS fixed!!

Regarding the 2nd half, I'm more concerned about the offense's execution more than the play calling. The whole 2nd half, there was no sense of urgency by the players. They were kinda just going through the motions and biding their time. That also needs fixed! On the plus side, when we needed a time draining scoring drive, we were able to turn it back on. Very happy about that!!

Even the ultimate Heel’s homer, Deems May, said on their postgame that even if they had one second the odds of the Hail Mary working was 2 percent at best.
 
No chance they would have gotten a play off. Fuck em.

As a State fan, this was the best part for me. The fact that Mack mismanaged the clock at the end of a game yet again, paired with the receiver not being smart enough to get straight OB was icing on the cake.
 
2% chance is probably being generous. The hail mary works about three times a season in college and pros combined.

He stated matter of factly after USU that it would be addressed. So my concern is that he IS addressing it, but incorrectly or insufficiently. Every coach has some blind spots.
 
Agree with those frustrated re: conservative play calling in the 2nd half. We missed Kendall a lot in this game. If he’s in there I think we spread UNC out and keep pounding. We were successful in the first half because of the deep ball...that just didn’t work in the 2nd half.
