Donald Impeachment

Hold Sondland in contempt, drag him to jail, and add another article of impeachment for obstruction.

And Schiff can hold a press conference and say “The articles of impeachment just got two paragraphs longer.”

Old people don't just appear from out of the ether. Rational middle aged people will go down the path seen so much in the "I lost my parents to Fox News" oft told story. Absent implementing something like Logan's Run palm flower, this cycle will inevitably continue.

You don't teach high school, bro. I had over half of my honors sophomores try to tell me that Hillary ran on the platform of murdering babies after they were born. If their parents are dumb and buy into the bullshit, they sell it pretty well to the kids. A lot of young people simply regurgitate the stupid shit their parents tell them.

This really applies down in my neck of the woods. Rural SC is still operating much like it has for the last 40-50 years. I always thought when the mills closed for good, a lot of these kids would see the writing on the wall and get the hell out of places like Union, Chesnee, Piedmont, and a host of other tiny towns that lost the mill. Nope they stayed and took jobs in convenience stores instead and are living just like their parents (and voting like them).

My kids have come home from school several times telling how their classmates told them Hillary is a murderer.

And what's helping this continue is the mushrooming growth of homeschooling across the country, especially among religious fundamentalists. There are rural counties in NC which have seen significant declines in public school enrollment and rapid growth in homeschooling. And it's obvious that these kids are being taught only what their parents want them to believe - indeed, that's one of the reasons why they're being homeschooled in the first place. It's crazy, but it's becoming a major force in American education.

Yep. All fueled by a distrust in institutions spurred by Republicans.

People really are fooling themselves into think something’s gonna happen here, huh?

Wish there was a gif of Quincy Maddox eating popcorn. That’s perfect for that 18% of Republicans poll.

I feel like there is still a pretty remote chance he gets removed but feel much more confident he won’t be re-elected than any time since election night 2016.

One of the things that the GOP, and especially right-wing talking heads on Sunday morning talk shows, Fox News, right-wing websites, and other media sources have been repeating since the Democrats took control of the House earlier this year was that any attempt at impeachment would backfire. They - including even some supposedly "liberal" news media talking heads - have claimed that impeachment will only fire up Trump's invincible base, increase his standing in the polls, and would be a terrible move by Democrats.

So far, Trump's polling numbers have been going in the opposite direction - the RCP average has him going from around 7 points underwater in his approval/disapproval rating, to 11 points underwater. Additionally, there are signs that even some Republicans (around 15 to 25 percent, based on the poll) want the impeachment inquiry to go forward. It's a small number, but even 15% is significant. I also seriously doubt that the Senate will remove him from office, but thus far there doesn't seem to be this great groundswell of support for Trump that the media kept claiming would happen. At best I think it will be a wash in next year's election, and it may still significantly hurt him among independents. And he can't really afford to lose anybody that voted for him in 2016 and still expect to win next year. He's not going to be removed from office (although I do think there's still a good chance the House will vote to impeach), but I do think it could hurt him next year. Or at least it doesn't seem to be helping him in the way that people like Chris Christie, Hugh Hewitt, Rich Lowry, etc. have always said it would.

28 percent of Republicans now favor impeachment from a new poll this morning. That’s interesting. I’m surprised it’s gotten into double digits given their resounding overall approval of Donald per polling.

The real question is: even if hell freezes over and he actually gets removed, would that be best? Again, he's the symptom, not the disease. You're talking about a large swath of the nation who still believes the democratic process is rigged against them, EVEN AFTER TRUMP WON.
