CONOR Football News 2020

Coming tonight, hopefully.

Been really slow because of a litany of reasons I don't need to bog yall down with.

Just know they are always gratefully received. I know it has to take hours (literally) to rewatch and make notes and then consolidate those notes.

Two basketball games, bowl rumors, and two transfers are plenty of reasons.

Traveling Sunday morning, All-ACC ballot due Sunday, didn't sleep Saturday night in Syracuse, editor got laid off Monday, new editor (who was and still is Greensboro's editor) came Tuesday, the Disneyland stuff ... so much for the first week without a football game since October.

Any chance at all that Strnad will be available for the bowl? Seems very unlikely but man, we could use him.

Conor - any word from Clawson if any of the transfer portal guys might play? I assume not, but asking anyway.

- Don't think there's a chance for Strnad.

- Newman most likely ready; Scotty a little more iffy, but as long no setbacks, he'll be back (it sounds like).

- Clawson was pretty clear last night on the portal guys: "We kind of left it up to them (if they would practice this month/play in bowl). And those guys, most of them have chosen that they want to try to find a place."

What about Bothroyd? Thanks in advance ...

And everyone keeps saying that only Jones would be on the 2-deep, but I think Manny Walker would be a pretty significant loss, replaceable yes, but he had a really good game against Syracuse and seemed to be on the field more and more as the year progressed. Yes, we have some redshirt guys and Allen, but he would most likely be on the 2-deep next year, as he was this year, should he stay ...

Not sure on Bothroyd -- the three Clawson listed are all we got. It's arguable Greer is the most-important one to get back, given what's behind him on the depth chart.

Walker, I mean ... he wasn't on the depth chart until halfway through the year. It took all of about a week of spring practice for him to get passed in the pecking order by McCollum and Johns. Not great for somebody you were kinda counting on to take the next step. He made a couple of nice plays against Syracuse -- in 7 snaps. With Johns and McCollum as young as they are, you want to give Walker snaps over them? I think you can pretty easily get more out of that scholarship than a 5th-year DE who might be able to give you 10-15 snaps against middling ACC teams.

i believe we're expecting big things from royce francis as well.

Interesting. I guess I noticed him on those couple of plays. I thought he played more ... I do agree that we are deep on the end going into next year assuming Boogie goes pro and Walker leaves, but technically, he was on the 2-deep (he may have been listed on one of those positions like RB where we listed 3 on the 2-deep.

Ahhhh, correction, that 7-snap number is from Duke game. The chart I have isn't updated with Syracuse.

Appreciate is right, big things expected from Royce Francis, who has a motor they've raved about since the spring.

At this point, look at D-line like this: if one of the 3 between Boogie, Kamara and Walker returns, you feel better about depth. Now, if all 3 leave it doesn't mean you're hurting; just means you need to stay relatively healthy through spring and have Francis, Justin Williams or Will Smart become a solid contributor. I don't think that's too far a jump, especially with Cohen being the position coach.

Where is Kamara going to go? Does he have any draft stock or have their been transfer rumors? Saw he was honored on Senior Day, but never heard why.

It could be because he was getting his degree and wanted to go ahead and celebrate. Or it could be a number of other things. No one knows, but he’ll be there for the bowl game (haven’t heard otherwise) which is what matters.

Also, does anyone know if Miles Fox is getting an additional year?

Exactly on the first part. He's graduating and it's not a guarantee that he'll want to be back next year, nor is it a guarantee the staff wants him back next year.

Yes on Miles Fox, the plan is for him to be back in January. And from all indications, that's still the plan. That's one of the reasons I say you can afford some attrition at DT. Clawson was pretty certain he'd be a starting DT before the injury in the spring.

Miles Fox should get another year. I don't think the NCAA rules on that until the season is complete for all teams. So don't expect a decision until Jan or Feb.
