Wake Forest Football Recruiting

article here

Beal is a Lawrenceville resident who played high school football at Norcross, and the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., but graduated from Peachtree Ridge High without ever playing football there. The 6-foot-4, 244-pound defensive end/outside linebacker got 5-star ratings from ESPN.com and PrepStar Magazine but drew a 4-star grade from 247Sports.com’s composite. He originally committed to Notre Dame before flipping to Georgia. Jeremy Pruitt and Kevin Sherrer, both of whom are now at Tennessee, recruited Beal for Alabama and UGA, respectively.

Beal’s path to the field with the Bulldogs has been a difficult one. He redshirted as a freshman in 2017, then played sparingly in special teams and back-up roles the last two seasons. This past year, he only played in five games and did not play in the SEC Championship game. He leaves Georgia having participated in 16 games with no starts, 23 tackles and one quarterback sack.

One important question about him: will he graduate from GA and be a graduate transfer, eligible immediately or is he a regular transfer who will have to sit a year?

If the latter, then whatever school gets him will be in the pay for two, get one year of play situation, because he already redshirted his first year. If he gets his degree, then he is much more attractive as a grad transfer, immediately eligible with two seasons of playing time at his new school.

ETA:

End of RSoph season is a difficult time to be a regular transfer. The receiving school will need to use two years of scholarship for one season of playing time.

It is a good time to be a grad transfer. The new achool gets a player who is immediately eligible and has two seasons of playing time but only ties up scholarship for about 1.5 years.

Players may not do this math. I expect coaches do it all the time.

It should be noted that he's a man playing against competition that is a step or two below the top levels of SC football. Some of those highlights are against Charlotte Country Day.

LSU is still in the hunt for Burch. Maybe we can dodge seeing him live for three years.

Maybe Josh Gattis can put in the good word for the potential Jones' scholarship replacement?

6'4 former 4* WR from UMichigan enters transfer portal: https://247sports.com/Player/Tarik-Black-61354/high-school-106651/

40 catches, 507 yards, 2 TD would be an upgrade over Jones. Only played 3 games as a freshman and then got injured, so that's a potential injury redshirt. I assume he'd have to sit a year and play one year then petition for that injury redshirt to get a 6th year.

That may explain why he looks like a man among boys. And outruns the DBs. Wow.

Tarik Black, WR from Michigan, and Brendon White, SS/OLB/Rover/Bullet/Viper/Whatever else from tOSU, both entered the transfer portal. Black is extremely talented, albeit injury prone. White was the Rose Bowl defensive MVP last year, but never really found a role on this year's team. We should reach out to both.

Is the NCAA giving out 6th years when one of the RS years is for transfer?
