2020 Democratic Presidential Nominees

I definitely don't believe that Shoo doesn't watch cable news or read facebook. Or, I guess, dude spends his entire life on Twitter.

People much smarter than any of us (except maybe birdman) have quantitatively analyzed all of the data from 2016 and disagree with Shoo's Bernie Bro narrative. You know who is obsessed with it? All of the MSNBC/CNN sycophants who spew the nonsense 24/7 for micro-olds and boomers on cable to post as rousing takes on Facebook.

Look, this is a depressing period of time for a lot of folks on this thread. You can either binge partisan idiocy online and on television, or you can get out there and make a difference. I personally find the former impossible because if I don't like to feel hopeless and find no joy celebrating the collective suffering of poor people in the United States to get points towards some politics-as-sport contest.

Basically, post less about Bernie Bros and maybe go outside and talk to people about politics. It'll help!

Who are you guys following that you see a bunch of Bernie Bro posts? My feed leans pretty heavily towards politics, but I don't get a bunch of posts from randos, regardless of who they support.

Seriously! I know Bernie Bros in real life and follow a handful of them on Twitter who are my friends, but my feed leans progressive and far left when it comes to political punditry and I never see these sentiments. Wonk-types love Warren and Democratic Socialist/Social Democrat-types love Bernie; both sides are pretty exhausted by this media-baked war of unnamed sources talking shit about candidates that's currently sustaining Shoo's feed. Like wtf is a #neverwarren hashtag. It may exist, but it doesn't exist in my social media reality.

Shoo, doesn't it ever get exhausting or boring to whine about Bernie Bros on the internet? Everybody on here agrees with an eye towards 2020 and some of y'all just can't quit relitigating 2016.

I can't keep up here half the time.

No time for twitter, facebook, instawhatever.

A little cable, but mostly just read real paper and a few websites: NYT, WaPo, BBC, NPR makes up most of my political and news gathering.

Oh, and this place.

I mean, if anybody is getting played by Russians, it's dudes like RJ and Shoo who lap these talking points up at an absurdly fast pace not thinking for a second that promoting and inciting internal divisions on the left is exactly the fucking playbook that is described in the articles they post, but evidently don't read about "russian interference."

it's FASCINATING that using a hashtag contributes to its dissemination?

seems a bit hyperbolic. that or welcome to social networks, I guess?

Man, twitter seems to suck.

I think what tends to happen is that people follow sources or other people they agree with and it leads to a lot of confirmation bias and cynicism. It’s definitely made me more insular in some of my ways of thinking about things and I agree with Strick that it’s important to also look to other sources to get other voices or you’ll be stuck in a bad echo chamber. That combined with nefarious tech algorithm, foreign interference, etc makes for a bad experience even for a discerning and balanced digital native.

I like twitter but recognize its problems and try to take what I’m getting with a grain of salt. I’ve given up on Facebook a long time ago but generally think it’s foolish to dismiss platforms as a whole.

lol

A little interesting, but hardly enough to amount to being determinative as to my vote.

Biden, Bloomberg, Klobuchar: 12

Steyer: 11

Yang: 10

Buttigieg: 9

Warren: 7

Gabbard: 4

Sanders: 3

Oh I didn't mean it in any way to be indicative of "you should vote for this candidate now", but I thought it was interesting on some issues I hadn't really thought about, such as the TPP where I was with Biden and co. in the moderate realm.

Twitter is definitely better for sports than for politics. NBA and soccer Twitter are some of the best in the business, but those are purely entertaining.

it's almost like we shouldn't solely base our communication practices on digital platforms designed to extract attention in the interest of accumulating Capital

Yep.

Twitter was feeling super echoy to me, so I made it a point about a year ago to seek out smart people who are generally more conservative than me to mix up the feed. I think it's actually been helpful.

Mainly I just don't have the time for them.

Maybe someday I'll give 'em a try. But from outside, they seem on balance to be potentially pretty hazardous.

tilt, who are those people (if you don't mind sharing)? i enjoy your perspectives on here and would love to see who you're following.

Yep.

Also, the phrasing of the policies and how you might or might not support them works against me coming is for a lot of them I'm actually fine with.

Nonetheless, I agree it's an interesting exercise.
