He could guard me now....But if I shot for a week or so, I'd chance playing horse with him.
When I was in HS or may have been a frosh in college, I was playing at a place called Rose Playground on the border of Overbrook Park and West Philly. There was an upper court for pros and D1 players. The lower court was for the rest of us. One day, they were short a guy on the upper court and called for me to join them. I had no business in that game with Temple star Johnny Baum, playground legend Ty Britt and ABA star Trooper Washington.
After a few plays, Trooper winged the ball at my head and screamed,"If you're open shoot the fucking rock."
I had no prayer at playing D against those guys, but I did hit a couple of buckets and got to play the next game. Then, they told me to go back to the other court.
About six months ago, I surprised myself. I was walking to get some lunch and decided to take a jump at a hoop on our street. I touched the second knot below the rim and was psyched.
