2020 Democratic Presidential Nominees

More power to Tulsi. More than the money, it's about sending a message to people like Hillary to think twice before spouting unfounded smears in public for political reasons.

And before you call her a POS, look up her record and go listen her speak for 10 minutes. She's smart, fiercely independent, principled, and a patriot in every sense of the word.

Yep, giving Assad a meeting is really patriotic.

"“Like the Russians, Iranians and the Assad regime, Tulsi sees the Syrian people struggling for dignity as terrorists, despite the facts,” said Mouaz Moustafa, executive director of the Syrian Emergency Task Force, who was Gabbard’s guide on that 2015 trip.

That bias, combined with her long record of defending the Assad regime and parroting its propaganda, form the basis for the assertion Gabbard has “embraced and been an apologist for” Assad, as Sen. Kamala D. Harris (D-Calif.) said Wednesday post-debate on CNN. Harris also said she doesn’t take Gabbard seriously.

But Gabbard’s candidacy should be taken very seriously — not because she has a significant chance of being president, but because her narrative on Syria is deeply incorrect, immoral and un-American. If it were adopted by her party and the country, it would lead the United States down a perilous moral and strategic path."

A "patriot" does not condone Assad's and Russia's actions like she has.

"unfounded"

It's almost certainly a sham lawsuit but Hillary (former Sec State) knows what it means to use the word "asset" and making that claim about Tulsi gets pretty damn close to defamation. Regardless of whether that's something that is worthy of a suit, it's pretty shitty behavior.

I'm not a Tulsi fan, but to claim a combat vet and civil servant is a foreign asset sucks.

POTUS is supposed to be a civil servant and he's a de facto Russian asset.

I knew that establishment media talking point would get raised. Do your own research and form your own opinions rather than rely on a WashPo op-ed. I'm not gonna get into a debate on Syria.

It's called diplomacy, unless you think we should bomb everyone we disagree with. Is the US President supposed to refuse meeting with Putin or Xi because of the human rights violations in those countries? What about the human rights violations in our very own country? Should leaders of other nations refuse to meet with us because we torture prisoners, assassinated Soleimani, etc.?

Ok, see it's understandable that rj wouldn't know what "asset" means, but there's zero plausible deniability a former Secretary of State would know.

Michael Bennet continues to be the "centrist" who I wish was polling better. "Centrist" in quotes because he has proposed $6 trillion (!) in new spending, and on good stuff. All paid for by plausible tax increases (the biggest lift would be his plan for mark to market taxation).

His eviction prevention legislation was legitimately excellent. I like him. I don’t know why he considers himself a centrist, tbh. Bad branding.

My bad using her own actions is wrong for you. Supporting/believing Assad and Putin is not serving America or human rights. Giving their murderous acts and crimes against humanity cover is disgraceful and unacceptable.

Well, it is to most people, but to you if you can a cheap shot at Hillary covering for crimes against humanity it's OK.

GOT IT!

Bennett's climate plan is a bit too market-driven for my tastes, but he's got a lot better message than people give him credit for.

It's a deparate cry for attention from an attention whore who, by the way, is an asset to the Russians just like Trump is. The complaint is laughable. She disparages Clinton more in her complaint than Clinton disparaged her, and in her response to Clinton's comments at the time. Clinton should countersue but won't. What a pathetic douche move.

goddamn, your ability to just have a regular debate is fucking nil

I already said I'm not a Tulsi fan, precisely because of her stance on Assad.

But I'm not cheap shotting Hillary, I'm calling her out for misusing the term "asset." It's not right about Trump and it's definitely not right about Tulsi. They may be stupidly friendly to Russia, but they're not literally assets of foreign governments.

The far left is using a politician, whose days are over, just like Trump. Way to help Trump.

Hillary is the new Jesse Jackson. For two decades, RWers used Jesse to attack all Dems/progressives even after no one was paying attention to him. Hillary picked up that baton. Now, the left is using the female Beetlejuice in the same way.

BTW, you can be an "unwitting asset" as well as a paid one. Giving cover multiple times to Assad and Putin is being more effective as an "asset" than being on the payroll.

You can't deny Gabbard gave them cover.

I encourage you to listen to the John Kiriakou interview on the Useful Idiots podcast for an alternate perspective on all this. He goes into some detail about what it means to be a literal "asset" of a foreign government and how Clinton knew what she was doing by saying that about Gabbard. Speaking with you rather than rj on this because I think you're capable of critical thought. It's not my favorite podcast, I find the hosts pretty annoying in their own ways, but they have guests like this that aren't given much exposure in other media and it's worth hearing them out.

Kiriakou was charged with breaking the Espionage Act for exposing the torture program in 2012, so he has a unique experience and point of view about the intelligence community and the way the media describes whistleblowers, etc.
