2020 Democratic Presidential Nominees

Speaking of ethnic food, I gotta say I had some Beignets from Cafe du Monde when I was down there and it was heavenly. I didn't realize that they structure their business by essentially renting out tables to the servers there, though.

For real? Hmm. That's interesting.

What's your list of favorite ethnic food?

I prefer Asian generally Vietnamese/Thai/Japanese Noodles
I like Middle Eastern, Greek, Eqyptian
There is a good restaurant in Greensboro that serves El Salvadorian and other Central American Dishes
Brazilian/Cuban

Those are off the top of my head. We usually search out good ethnic restaurants in our travels

CL, do you keep saying "ethnic" to poke at people or is that generally how you refer to any food you don't consider "American?"

I would consider ethnic food as cuisines that aren't indigenous to where you live.

So basically anything that Elizabeth Warren didn’t contribute to a cookbook

American cuisine is kinda weird because we are such a new country and our cuisine traditions are such a mishmash.

BBQ pork is definitely indigenous to the US.

Speak more on your travels please.

I will use international cuisines if it makes you feel more comfortable. There was no disparagement intended with ethnic.

wikipedia uses the term

another nothingburger thing to be offended about today

meanwhile, conservatives are hours away from handing our constitutional republic over into a dictatorship

for starters, having a billionaire buy his way into the nomination should be the antithesis of what the party wants to be

To be fair, Kennedy and FDR, are among the greatest Presidents from the Dem party and their families were mega rich.

All food is ethnic. All food comes from specific cultures that adapted the ingredients and methods available at that place and time whether we're talking about Ethiopian food or American fast food.

International is less questionable but brings up the extent to which the cuisine has been Americanized. Seems like restaurants used to claim authenticity and perhaps they're leaning in more now. I went to a restaurant recently that described itself as "Italian-American fusion." Seems like that used to just be an "Italian restaurant."

David Chang has good thoughts on “authenticity” in world cuisine

Anyway I’m off to Delhi tomorrow, will have to stomach Indian three meals a day for a week. It does get a little tiring eating so many lentils. I will be craving some non ethnic food by the time I’m gone

Yep and i have no problem with a non American calling American food ethnic. Not very good ethnic in alot of cases.

Italian american fusion? Olive Garden?

I consider ethnic, or international, as traditional dishes from the country or region that the cuisine originates from.

If I go out to eat or order out, I pretty much only go to Asian restaurants these days. They're more reasonably priced than other Cville restaurants, and it's usually healthier than most American based restaurants. I like Thai, Korean, Vietnamese, Indian and Afghan (and avoid the cream based dishes at Indian places). Figure a good bowl of pho or Thai noodles is better for me than anything else I can get, and darn tasty.

Probably should just stick with cuisine then.
