Official 2020 NBA Offseason - First Half Season Schedule Out

All star game or making a team for a 7 game series? Each in their prime? 03 Duncan would be tough to turn down. The rebounding and outlet passes alone would be incredible.

The Clips are all the way across the country trying to get out of there for the break.

These Zion highlights are nuts.

That was a classic. Wow. Definitely the best dunk contest of my lifetime.

Maybe best ever

They need a better system so they aren’t just dunking indefinitely but those were some silly dunks

agree on new system but also don’t know how you pick between those guys

Aaron Gordon so close twice now

His wife is a hero. I can’t think of a better word.

You read that and wonder why people are so eager to get rid of one and done. Seems like that one year makes so much of a difference. People only think about Lebron, Kobe, and KG not all the flame outs from that era. And Curry fared better than many of them.

True, though NBA teams have gotten much better at coupling human development with talent development. There are some notable exceptions, but the league is a much healthier place now than it was then.

I think guys should have the option to go straight to the pros or spend a year in college. I only say that because a lot of these elite HS prospects have had trouble qualifying in recent years.

ETA: Boys Among Men by Jonathan Abrams captures the early preps-to-pros era better than anything else I’ve read on the subject.

Oh definitely. Human development is in a much better place. That Darius Miles piece from a year or so ago makes that point. But I think that year really helps. I don’t see the rush to get these guys into the league. Who was the last rookie All-Star? Blake Griffin? And he had an injury “redshirt” year. Lebron and Kobe didn’t even do it.

Just finished watching All-Star Saturday Night. Man, that was fun. Shame how it ended. It should have been a tie. All three events were great. I agree there should something else in the skills comp. Maybe a crossover under a low bar? I don’t know.

The three point comp was a lot of fun. The Mountain Dew shots were a great addition. Reggie didn’t seem to realize that a perfect score is 40, not 50 like the old days.

Several of those dunks were all time greats but Gordon had the two best.

I mean, we don’t really know what motivates a lot of these guys, but poverty and ineligibility are major motivating factors in some of the more notable cases. Most kids from middle class families prefer to go to college for at least year, based on what I know about the process. I just find it hard to endorse forcing kids to go to school for a year. There isn’t anything preventing the league from institutionalizing a formal mentoring program that comes with ongoing life skills training. There’s no reason why preps-to-pros can’t come with some educational strings attached for the athletes. Would something like that be comparable, in your view?

Who are the victims of the current system?

I don’t understand the problem that would be solved by getting rid of the one year rule.

Players who don’t want to go to college can go overseas.

Pat C's second dunk with the touch off the glass may be the most technically difficult

I didn't realize what he had done in real time though

felt like it would have been totally appropriate to crown them both champions at any point in the finals

You don't think that one year is a primary reason why the league is a much healthier place now than it was then? I've always considered there to be a direct correlation. With a few top-end exceptions like Kobe and LeBron, the NBA's image and quality of play increased dramatically as the one and ones fell out. Virtually every professional job requires at least 4 years of college, I don't understand why it is considered harsh for the NBA to require at least 1.
