2020 Democratic Presidential Primary

Bernie needs to have a minority woman VP who passes every purity test preferably with enough experience to overcome concerns over his health. I don’t know who that is. Duckworth would be a good choice but her politics may be too moderate. Stacey Abrams will probably get the call.

Pete has a lot more flexibility politically but he definitely needs a minority woman. Duckworth would be a good choice to double up on the veteran cred. Val Demmings gets a lot of love among Pete supporters. Good TV presence. Did very well during the impeachment hearings and trial. Would be a great surrogate on the trail. Not much Washington experience as two term congresswoman. But she’s older (although she doesn’t really look 62) and has some additional gravitas. She has a bio that should pull any skeptical moderates (poor background, first woman chief of police in Tampa). Maybe Demmings could help in Central FL if Dems want to bother trying to put FL in play. I don’t think it’s worth it especially since the Gov and Senators aren’t on the ballot.

Ayanna Pressley would be a good pick too. That would help with progressives.

Warren will pick Castro. I think that’s close to a done deal. He would help with angry progressives. Not sure if he’ll be a strong surrogate on the trail.

I’ll talk about the others but I don’t think they have a chance.

I do not see a scenario where Pete is a VP candidate

I think I do, but not a big one. I agree that the ticket needs to be more diverse which is the biggest reason he’s probably not on it.

However, him debating Pence would be interesting because of their history in Indiana, Pete’s ability to authentically talk about Christianity, and the obvious dialogue on same sex marriage.

I hope he gets a cabinet position, and takes time to listen to people who don’t like him. His biggest problem is that he doesn’t listen for support. He tries to explain people into it. It’s like republicans and people of color. His path out of Indiana is not obvious.

If all of the Buttigieg supporters had supported Harris instead (at the time), then she probably would have still been "in this thing." But a female Senator from California was deemed less electable than a male mayor from a college town in Indiana.

Clinton was arguably the only candidate in 2016, is my point. Had Biden run, for instance, then I'm sure that the moderate vote would have been far more contested. But it's easy to speculate on stuff that didn't happen, so I'll concede the point.

I do wonder how much of Warren's negative polling has come from the fact that she just isn't really getting much attention from the media, which would rather fawn over the likes of Bloomberg and Buttigieg. It'll be interesting to see how her monster debate performance changes this calculus. Still, media seems more interested in asking her about Bloomberg than about her platforms...

Kind of sucks that there is one state that will establish the narrative on this, and it happens to be the one where her campaign was in the news for the wrong reasons.

Ayanna Pressley as Warren's VP.

You had me going for a minute there.

Electoral geography should make Tammy Baldwin a likely choice for VP.

That's a huge risk. We saw a Democrat lose in MA after Obama was elected and a Republican lose in AL after Trump was elected. It was a dumb move by Hillary too.

Color the comment any way you like. The point is to win the election, not to see if you can outmaneuver Venezuela for the most left wing ticket in the history of the world.

I do think it would be advisable for Warren to look outside the Greater Boston area for her VP pick.

Stacey Abrams will probably get the call.

What has Abrams done to deserve being one heartbeat away from the presidency?

Also, isn't her work with Fair Fight way more important in the bigger picture?

And where 70,000+ people voted before the debate.

I agree with both of these. But I'm saying she'll probably get the call. I hope the candidates leave Abrams alone and let her run Fair Fight and prep for a 2022 gubernatorial run.
