Stock Market Crash

They’ll just give it to their church who will pocket it to keep the lights on while services are cancelled.

I want the money I'm paying for takeout to be tax deductible too.

I have a lot of problems with a lot of churches these days, but the "average" church is probably going to be meeting a lot of community needs head on in the coming months.

I think the easier thing to do is just cut damn checks for people. I don't think anyone in Washington appreciates the urgency of a pay period for most Americans.

Yeah. The easiest thing would be to give the money now and tax it back from high earners in 2021.

Means testing now doesn’t even make sense. Just because someone made $100K in 2019 doesn’t mean they’ll be making $100K in 2020 throughout the crisis. It’s highly likely people who would be excluded actually really need it.

Like every single restaurant owner is going from $X to $0 before this is over.

there is absolutely no need to means test emergency aid what is wrong with people

Emergency aid is exactly that. A family making $250,000+/year doesn't need $1000,$2000 or $3000. Use the money that they would have gotten to help the poor and nearly poor more.

Yes, means testing is critical.

Precisely the galaxy democrat brain that loses elections

You sound like a Republican. You want the rich to get paid and take money from the poor. How very trickle down of you!

How many calls did you make to create support for Trump's tax cut for the rich?

How much are you donating to Moscow Mitch and Lyndsey Graham?

We do not anticipate needing the cash short term but what happens to a family with a good job that loses it because lay offs? What about a person in sales that can't close deals?

Side note I just looked at my 401k. Should not have done that.

Dude what are you doing? get off the internet with this

No that's not it rj. Though I'm glad the bounds of your imagination extend to a family of four making $250k getting $1000 as the nightmare of all nightmares. Again, galaxy Democrat brain. Your understanding of class in America is remarkable.

If the money is sent out properly it will save tons of jobs, the Top 5-8% can keep going. The more we can get to those who truly need it. The more jobs and homes we save.

Or we can listen to Townie's trickle down theories.

Addendum.

This is a stupid ass response that completely overlooks that the logistics of means testing will cause the entire process of getting checks to people that actually need them to be delayed.

Giving a check to everyone is literally the opposite of trickle down you fucking donk.

exactly

and some of 2019's top 5% won't be in the top 5% in 2020 because pandemic

And your defense of the upper class is typical. You are showing yourself to be a limousine liberal.

If you have a family of four and make $250,000 and you can't have saved enough to maintain your home and family for a few months giving you that pittance isn't going to matter.

Seems like you are going BKF on us.

rj i'm not talking about only giving money to rich ppl and not giving it to poor people. That's what trickle down economics is. I'm talking about not dithering about income levels and injecting emergency aid now to all Americans rather than typical Democrat brain trying to figure out at what exact cutoff point for what percentage of Americans a certain dollar amount will help a certain amount and indexing that to inflation and current tax levels and what kind of small business license you have and whether you were a Pell Grant recipient and what church you go to. Republicans are so much more honest about their grift, they're just like lol tax cuts for rich ppl. Dems are like we want to help! Here is the tapestry of complicated strings we've attached.

There's no need for a delay at all for means testing. The same data that we use to send out the first checks would have things like zip code, IRS ID# and W-2 info. It's right there.

Thinking giving high earners money will have any impact is silly.
