That guy didn’t look anything like him. That dude was way too young to be Matta

Are you referring to the old, blurry guy with longish hair in blue on the tarmac? Sure looked like it could have been him to me....just sayin'....

This feels like a typical Wake game. I was so hopeful and optimistic we would hire Wes. As many know, I have viewed his as a once in a generation hire for Wake for some time. Then I was crushed to learn we were out of it. Now I'm feeling we have a chance again. I'm sure bad shit will happen and we won't.

It's one of those classic Wake losses. Get one day and resolve yourself to the loss. Then we get back in the game only to lose at the end. It fees like losing twice. Does this only happen to WF basketball?

DR masterfully covering his bases. If Miller is hired, he has suggested that it might happen. If Miller is not hired he was right all along. I am still going with it is neither Miller or Forbes.

I meant that in response to the guy saying just let Randolph interim and start again next year if we whiff on “top” guys but you keep ranting about whatever it is you’re ranting about.

Have any response to the recent list of ACC hires that show Wake’s current list is in line with those?

I'm happy to respond if you don't mine quoting or re-posting a list. I don't know what you're referring to. Sorry about that, man.

I still think Matta was on that plane last night to Winston. Too many coincidences honestly.

It’s possible. The “he’s picking up a package” and “he’s not on the plane” statements are without any substance. Sound like some lousy explanations to me.

The nice dark SUV in the picture also looks like it was his ride from the airport.

Look at the last few hires in the ACC:

Kevin Keatts (UNCW)
Josh Pastner (Memphis)
Chris Mack (Xavier and Louisville had a title in the last few years)
Jeff Capel (Duke associate head coach)
Mike Young (Wofford)
Danny Manning (Tulsa)
Jim Christian (Ohio)

I don't think I'm the unrealistic one about who ACC teams hire and who they end up with as realistic finalists. It's great to shoot high and Wake should, but not landing Rick Pitino or Thad Matta doesn't mean Wake has failed and we should shutter the program.

I was responding to your post that perhaps I had low expectations of what an ACC coach’s resume looks like.

Agreed. That's why I was curious about the plane being hauled into the hanger when the flight plan was for an immediate return to Roanoke. Something was being hidden that the public wasn't supposed to see.

Hey, if there's a current mid-30s candidate who has been "wildly successful" at his former coaching gig, please show him to me.

Wes Miller ain't it.

I don't get your complete dismissal of Miller. The guy took over a shit program in the gutter and turned it around over the last decade and made them a contender to win their conference each of the last 5 years. His last 4-5 years are pretty similar to Forbes, and Forbes took over an ETSU program that had had decent success under Bartow (only 2 losing seasons in 12 years at ETSU). I've also been impressed with the job Russell Turner has done at Irvine and would consider him in that same tier as Forbes and Miller. To me, all 3 of their resumes I'd put in the same tier, and there are things to like maybe a little more here or there with each. But if you're saying that Forbes tenure as Marshall's assistant is what makes the difference, then that reminds me of the posters here clamoring for Pelphery 20 years ago or for supporting Manning because he was an assistant at Kansas. I'm not saying working for Marshall wasn't a great experience, but you can't tell how great an assistant coach is going to be as a head coach just by where he's been an assistant.

If Matta was on campus and did tour the facilities and Joel, that's a terrific sign. I still think he's the best choice Wake can make after the last decade.

We're all going to be disappointed if Thad Motta is not our new coach. This has got to be a home run hire!
