Danny Manning replacement search thread

We were up 7 with 20 secs left in possession of the basketball. Broke the computers after losing that in regulation.
Sounds like the script from a movie where the mafia goons are in the stands making slashing throat signs at the players, who try as they must to "give" the game away, up 7 w/20 seconds to go is too much to overcome.

Currie is going to have to do some super deep dives in a # of under the radar/diamond in the roughs coaches as not going to get a well known coaching commodity at this point in time. The lustre and shine of Rodney Rogers, Timmy D, Chill, CP3, our all NBA team of Ish/Teague/JJ/Aminu and past successes are pretty much forgotten by most and no one is going to want to jump into this garbage heap. If not afraid of some past questionable coaching influences I think a Steve Forbes from East Tenn St could be a great hire (worked with Gillespie and Pearl) or if more on the clean sheet associations a Matt McMahon @ Murray State or Brian Wardle @ Bradley. Think we are going to have to go even riskier for a young guy who is just starting to get a few winning seasons/ncaa tourneys with understanding he has 2 years to show vast improvement or onto the next high risk/reward potential hire. We have too much to offer in money, facilities, ACC, etc. to mess around and be very upfront that we know the right coach can win and do it the right way. It only took Davey O a couple of years and many others around the nation that have done the same and able to sustain successful programs.

Just want to go on record for calling Forbes wayyyy before Les back in mid Jan should he be the one. Who needs a search firm when you have this board!!!!!

If we're doing this... How about 2/9/18?

Steve Forbes is going to be a heck of a coach for a bigger program than ETSU in the near future. But it won't be at Wake Forest because Manning is not getting fired after this season, so it's not worth even discussing.

I don't give a shit about someone's age. I get the idea of hiring a young up and comer, but I think you hire the best person for the job, period. If someone "wins quickly" at Wake and leaves, that's fine by me. Would only help to elevate the job... I mean, it's been almost a decade since any coach has shown you can win at Wake (and even that 2009 season ended with a whimper).

deaconson can leave now so DeacsATS and i can high five each other for our amazing prognostications. Now if we can just get Mr. Currie to admit he got the idea from our post and we can share in some of the search fee???

Seriously. How much did that search firm make? The candidates were Forbes, Wes, Amaker, Odom, Matta, and Kelsey? I mean, come on.

Not going anywhere. This is the most excited I've been about Wake bball in 10 years. I used to take days off for acc and ncaa tourneys. The last few years I've largely tuned out college bball. Certainly did not follow other teams. Just having fun.

Search firms have nothing to do with identifying candidates.

Seriously.
They literally just found Amaker. *MAYBE * Chris fucking Collins.

They stole money from Wake like they were Manning. Damn.

I've got a hot level 7 (or whatever is one level lower than the worst source listed) tidbit. I work with a guy and his wife is a high school coach. She just won some big coach of the year award so she's been back and forth on these national tournament things running into recruiters and such because the guys and girls apparently have similar or even the same locations for events. So now she's been hanging with a few college assistant coaches, and when I mentioned I went to Wake she said oh I just met your next coach. And I was confused since I thought she meant on the women's side, but she said no, for the men's basketball team. Since she'd been in North Carolina I jokingly asked if she'd been hanging with Wes Miller, and she said it was her cousin actually and they were from Arkansas originally and went to college there. So I asked who she was talking about, she said she couldn't remember his name but it was that Tennessee guy.

She's not the sharpest knife in the drawer so my guess is she's thinking of completely different school and/or sport.

Turns out this was, hilariously, 100% accurate. Just got a text from her that basically confirms this was in the bag for a while now unless Currie decided to shift directions.

Haha - I actually thought about that post this AM. Still not 100% sure what the post really means - but in the end it was right.

Well, the info I was missing is that her little brother played under Forbes when he was an assistant coach. So when she met him at the clinic or whatever it was in North Carolina, it slipped (not from Steve, but from others close to him) that Wake was in the mix and that he liked Currie and would welcome a chance to coach in the ACC (I think that last part was assumed).

I would have bumped it to a level 6 source rating if she'd told me about the brother connection...
