Official 2020 NBA Offseason - First Half Season Schedule Out

Wilt had a lot of the sex, too, so I've heard. Don't know if you guys knew that. Like, a LOT of sex. With women.

BTW - not making an argument that Wilt was the greatest player of all time ... he spent too much time doing other stuff (volleyball, women, movies, etc) and never had the single minded focus and drive of someone like Russell, Jordan or Lebron.

But I do genuinely believe he's the single most physically talented basketball player ever, and maybe the best athlete of the 20th century full stop. Just an unbelievable physical specimen.

Something that was critical to Wilt vs. Russell is that there was no free agency in those days. Unless you were traded or dropped, you stayed with the team that drafted you. The Warriors and Sixers didn't have squads full of Hall of Famers like Russell's Celtics. The two years Wilt had good squads, he won. The 66-67 Sixers are on the very short list for greatest teams of all time. For many years, they had the best record ever. His Lakers team won 33 straight games.

If he could do what he did with no real training, imagine what would have happened if he had access.

It can easily be argued that Wilt was the important player in NBA history. Before him, there were teams in Rochester, Syracuse, Ft. Wayne. Teams took buses and trains to games. NBA games were sometimes opening games for doubleheaders with the Globetrotter. He was also the first athlete to demand to be traded to where he wanted to play.

Haven't seen any of the show, but I enjoyed this related Kukoc content. I was always a big Kukoc, guy, I dunno. Dug him in the Olympics that one time and it just stuck. I was watching a lot of WGN those days. Bonus in this story for the cameo from Big House Gaines' son, Clarence, Jr.!

I liked Kukoc a lot, too.

I imagine the next ep will feature him since it's going to involve the Dream Team. I'm guessing Ep 6 will involve Jordan's father's death. Then Jordan's first retirement in Ep 7. I'm really looking forward to that. Without more context, it looks really hypocritical for MJ to be mad at Rodman for going away to Vegas and for Scottie delaying his surgery. MJ just left and played another sport at the height of his game.

Wilt was a goddamn freak of nature. Simply a giant of a human being with absurd athleticism. There hasn't been anyone like him since, a once in a century type athlete. People as big as he was should not move with the fluidity and explosiveness he had.

This picture of him next to Ewing and Shaq is still laughable. He's 56 here and makes Shaq look like a teenager.

Shaq was 21 in that picture, so not much more than a teenager.

From a recent ESPN article. John Collins is learning Spanish during the Corona break.

THIS EXTRA DOWNTIME has given John Collins the chance to master a second language and get more in touch with his family heritage. Collins, whose mother is part Puerto Rican, has been taking Spanish lessons via Rosetta Stone and the Duolingo app.

The Atlanta Hawks big man took Spanish classes in high school in West Palm Beach, Florida, before continuing courses during his two years at Wake Forest.

"I never had a chance to finish -- obviously I left school early," Collins said. "But it's always been something that I've wanted to finish just 'cause I have been around it so much, and I want to learn."
ESPN Daily podcast

Monday through Friday, host Mina Kimes brings you an inside look at the most interesting stories at ESPN, as told by the top reporters and insiders on the planet. Listen

Although he could grasp what his grandfather and other relatives were saying during conversations, Collins found writing in Spanish to be difficult. After the first few weeks of quarantine, Collins wasn't sure how much his Spanish was improving.

"I'm better than where I was," Collins said. "To get real growth, I got to go over to a Spanish-speaking country.

"Hopefully one day I will get the opportunity."

Jordan had 6 pts in 37 min on 3-11 shooting in their first meeting in Chapel Hill (Deacs won 55-48).
Jordan had 13 pts in 34 min on 3-6 fg, 7-11 ft shooting in the second meeting in Winston (Holes won big)

But Rogers didn't play against Jordan that year according to Charlie Board's ACC stats. The article says Rogers was a senior when he went against Jordan, but that was in 1983 which is the year he got drafted by the Kings.

Rogers only played 5 games in the 1981-82 season. He played a full senior season in 1982-83 after Jordan became nationally known after winning the championship. Rogers played against Worthy and Perkins in 1981 and played against Jordan and Perkins in 1983.

Why was 90's basketball so much better than recent basketball? Expansion? The stars not being millenial pussies?

One of the biggest problems is how much AAU has exploded over the past quarter of a century. The sneaker companies are going after kids at younger and younger ages. They are telling kids that don't need to worry that much about their HS coaches. They's be able to get scholarships anyway.

Add into this one and done and there are tons of top players who have never learned fundamentals or had to listen to a coach.

The way too easy three ball is a factor but much less of one.

I don't think it was better. Different? Yes. More physical? Yes. Better rivalries fueled by pure hatred? Yes.

I've watched some old finals games on Youtube recently, it's amazing how bad the basketball is at times. So, so, so many stagnant ugly games.

Incredible typo rj.

Look at your keyboard S is next to D.

Don't comment on the content. Good job...It's hard to be that petty....

I would have liked to hear from more Knicks players than just Ewing and Oakley. Maybe there will be more if they do the 1994 playoffs in Jordan's absence.

I feel like much of the media attention about Jordan's gambling was sports media coming to grips with the new reality of athletes living like the rich and famous.

MJ was fed up with the media scrutiny of the mid-90's...clearly a big part of his first retirement along with the death of his father. how do you think he would have dealt with the current 24 hour news cycle, everyone in the world with a phone posting pics of him on social media gambling in AC in between a back-to-back, or players he bullied in practice subtweeting him.

like it's quaint there was this book, the Jordan rules, that was a huge story because it revealed behind the scenes Jordan was dick. like something like that could stay widely unknown without a book.

I remember reading that book back in the day. Obviously I was a Bulls fan and Jordan apologist, but my take from that was that he was a really competitive guy who expected everyone else around him to play up to his level. My take hasn't changed.

Persona-wise, I think Jordan in today's social media landscape would be a lot like Lebron. Jordan would have that much more money to help protect his thin skin.

I don't think that he'd be similar to lebron bc they are so different personality wise. all lebron does on instagram is post goofy videos of him and his family or show him self rapping along his favorite songs. he's like a big kid. couldn't see Jordan doing any of that.

he'd more likely be cussing out opposing fans on twitter like Durant but without the burner accounts.

Nike has much more experience crafting media personalities since Jordan.
