2020 Presidential Election: Biden v. Trump

I only watched the last 30 minutes, but it was fucking exhausting.

I'm sure that somebody like Warren or Sanders may have done marginally better (as birdman touched on, I think Biden's speech impediment made it more difficult for him to respond to some of the rapid-fire bullshit spewed by the President), but I'm not sure how much better anyone can do in a format where the other debater never shuts the fuck up.

I think Wallace and Biden were in the same spot; without the ability to backhand the President and tell him to shut his fucking mouth, I have no idea what else you can do in that situation.

Did Biden probably miss a couple lay-ups? Yes. But he also didn't go full screaming banshee, which probably would have been worse.

I think it was an intentional strategy to try and get the guy with a stutter frustrated and to start fumbling over his words. I don't know much about the psychology of speech impediments and how much it stays with you at 78, but that was an amazing performance by Biden even without the extra burden of a repressed stutter.

There’s no sane person that can counter that sort of disgrace because sane people are internally governed by reason, reality, and a moral code. The campaigns agreed to not talk over each other. One followed that because he said he would. The other threw a tantrum and sounded like a pathetic bully. Elizabeth Warren might have the temperament to not back down from a bully. So what? So does Biden. What do you do when you’re making a point and your opponent is shouting Pocahontas and making offensive mocking Indian gestures and war cries feathers and shit to rattle you? Mayor Pete? Gay jokes. Bernie? He’s a communist Stalin blah blah.

You’re debating Eric cartman. You don’t roll in the mud with a pig. You ignore it and get your points across. If the debate hosts/moderators can’t enforce it then fuck them.

Imagine the worst possible debate performance that you can.

Whatever it is, last night was worse than that.

Still kinda in disbelief that the President of the United States of America not only refused to condemn white supremacist groups, but told one of the groups to stand by. This is a thing that happened in a nationally televised debate.

One person stumbled a few times when he had a clown shouting through his points. The other one talked about forest cities, presented no substantive anything, told white supremacy to “stand by”, abused the format and rules of the “debate” he agreed to...should I go on?

Pubs have no respect for their own supposed values by bosiding that. You’re just trying to tune it out so you don’t hurt your brain by justifying it.

Fox News and the Trumpers overplayed their hand re Biden. Many of those viewers were likely shocked at his ability to debate this correctly designated clown, hence the attempts to placate them with bogus theories of drugs, wires, and earpieces. I don't expect 90% of those cult members to actually reflect on the possibility that they are being lied to and used like the sheep they are. But I do think it might be enough to create serious doubt in the remaining 10% who were not full fledged members. And that's part of the reason this was a resounding W for Biden.

I thought that was his strategy as well. As someone with a stutter, I can confirm that it would be very challenging to deal with someone that constantly bullies, interrupts, insults, and talks over me. Biden handled it very well and manages his stutter extremely well in general. You can still notice times when it affects him, but it isn’t as noticeable to people that aren’t familiar with speech impediments or don’t know he has one. Unfortunately, for those people it comes across as being not all there. The media doesn’t give that the proper context it deserves.

Just to be clear, Pubs are not boosting this or enabling this, Trump is their entire 2020 platform.

I meant the pubs here who are bosiding it. Not to name names.

Any of you who were still worried about the outcome of the election should rest easy after this evening. That was, without question, the worst debate performance in the history of American Presidential politics. Donald Trump is running Biden's campaign brilliantly.

After that performance last night, Dump couldn't get elected dog catcher in a Republican Disitrict.

It seems like the stutter also restricts Biden's ability to show passion, which is why he can come off as "soft spoken". I'm betting he's very different in private, but unfortunately the public doesn't get to see that side of him.

Warren was on CNN before the debates, and she's just flat out a more charismatic speaker than Joe. It's really too bad she never gained a foothold during the primaries.

I have to believe even the most ardent Dump supporters are totally dismayed this morning after their guy's performance. Few will admit it, but they have to be.
As a life long Pub, it only confirms my belief that the sooner we rid ourselves of the taint of this man, the better the Party and all of us will be.
While no one likes to be stomped on and bullied, and we can debate that there are Dems who could of performed better, (Mayor Pete comes first to mind) I would like to see in the 2nd debate Biden, taking an even "higher" road and letting the lunatic totally bury his chances.

If some of his supporters watched and registered the misgivings you mentioned they most likely retreated to their Facebook feeds or fox coverage to validate their continued support. Bosiding it, if you will. Not to mention the supporters who liked what they saw.

If we want normalcy we can’t depend on trump supporters to all of a sudden turn on him. If covid, racial violence, tax fraud etc won’t do it then a shitty debate won’t. We need to outvote them.

Vote conscience.

Why would you believe that after all the data we have that suggests Trump's core supporters are unwavering in their support for Donald Trump regardless of how he behaves or what he does?

This. Had this happened 20 years ago, it would have been widely condemned, and it would be all anyone is talking about in the news. Now it's par for the course and a footnote in the news. I think back to the 2008 campaign when McCain corrected that crazy woman in the crowd and said Obama was a good man and that they just had political differences. Now the equivalent of that crazy woman is the president.
