Stugotz - your point about tipping at the brewery when picking up a 4 pack to go raises the question of how much do you tip for that? I'm gonna sound #old, but when a bartender just turns around and grabs a 4 pack out of the cooler, I have a hard time tipping. Same deal at coffee shops - if the barista just pushes the pump a few times until my cup is full of hot coffee, does that deserve a tip? The icing is when most of these places now use the Square system so when they flip it around to you, it is asking you for a tip. I realize that this is where most of the service industry makes their money, but does stuff like that warrant a tip?

I've started doing it in COVID times. Not sure what I'd do in pre-covid times.

We think the Trump presidency was pretty wild, but I mean the JFK presidency in the social media age would be pretty wild as well. Just straight up sex parties with interns and movie stars

I feel like I visited Universal in a transition point where they still had a few of the older rides that were noticably outdated - The Jaws Boat Ride, The ET...whatever that was, the very noticeably standard definition Spiderman 3D, the Terminator Theater deal. Are any of those still there?

As for the kid, it's really fun to see her get excited about learning new things. I try to purposefully teach her about a new word or concept every day. This past week it's been Neighborhood/Neighbors, City/State, Sir/Ma'am, Stars/Moon/Planets

The only other time I went was like 13-14 years ago, so it was before that stage. I went on Jaws and thought it was boring. They replaced that with Diagon Alley which looks amazing. Huge upgrade. ET is still around but it was closed. They upgraded Spiderman to HD a few years ago. It looks good. No Terminator. That may be where the Jimmy Fallon theater ride is now. The only rides there now that I remember from before are ET, Shrek, MIB, and the Simpsons ride.

The Marvel stuff at Islands of Adventure is good. They have to upgrade the rides in order to keep the Marvel contract. But it's outdated because the land is stuck in a 90s perspective of comic books as counterculture pulp. It's even more outdated because it's right next to the comic strip themed area based on Beetle Bailey, Blondie, and comic strips nobody under 30 would recognize. It's still is well done though. Both water rides there are excellent. Universal obviously can't put Marvel in a modern context because they don't have access to the MCU. So the intro videos look like a 90s cartoon instead of having of live action Tom Holland doing voice overs.

Pretty funny that Universal bought the theme park rights to Marvel and The Simpsons and now Disney owns them.

Didn't the decent dueling dragons coasters at universal just get rebranded as Harry Potter coasters? I'd been on them a bunch before Harry Potter ever made its way to universal.

Yeah. It was rebranded then it got scrapped for the new Hagrid ride.

They axed those to build a new ride. They were awesome but also broke all the fucking time/were poorly designed.

And a guy lost an eye on the ride.

Damn, I don't even want to think about what would need to happen to lose an eye on a rollercoaster

Fabio breaking his nose by hitting a goose on a rollercoaster is still what validates my belief in a benevolent higher power.

Also, if you’re just a fan of coasters, Cedar Point has no competition.

Went to Universal this weekend for the first time since the Harry Potter lands open. All three rides are excellent. Easily three of the best rides I’ve ever been on.

Was it safe? Social distancing, masks, etc.?

Guys I understand why my wife wants to get all the Christmas stuff out of the way now because her maternity leave is up in a few weeks and December will be busy, but holy fuck do I hate talking about Christmas every day during mid-November.

It's the worst holiday and its not even close. I already want it to be over.

you're the worst holiday

I have read the chat thread and the election thread this morning, and it is my professional opinion that Brasky needs a hug.

Naw. He's right. Christmas sucks compared to other holidays. It's still a holiday and therefore awesome, but we've totally made it suck as much as possible.

Maybe because every year we try to recreate Christmas for someone born in 1946.
