Chat Thread: Cheatin' TKory !!!!!

having said that, the backsplash from milk hitting cereal the wrong way and shooting out of the bowl is a low-grade annoyance

1.5 inches above bowl lid and a slow, easy pour down the center should take care of spillage. If you're still having some trouble, come on back and let's look into some other methods.

Spoken like a true novice. The professional cereal eaters pour the milk first and then add just enough cereal to eat before it gets soggy. When you are done eating the cereal and have more milk, add more cereal. When you are done, add more. With practice, you can figure out how much milk to pour at the start and how much cereal to add each time so that not a drop or bite of easier is wasted.

I think this is what juice was talking about. *shudder*

Gotta be on the ball. My wife’s slippers are safely in my office.

Womp womp. I did find this really cool incense holder made out of solid brass that I think she’ll love so hopefully that cushions the blow.

Holy shit, the last four or five pages of chat thread have been smoking hot. Love the white guy takes.

I'm out of rep (again), but I need to remember to come back to spread more around.

Treat others as you would be treated.

Pursue happiness without doing harm to others.

Trade value for value.

Nah, brah. Those are fine principles, but they provide no explanation of why acting in accordance with them is moral, or acting in opposition is immoral.

Acting outside of them is almost universally not in your long-term rational self-interest.

Can you cheat and win? Yes, but it likely isn't in your long-term rational self-interest. It's possible you never get caught, but we're biologically wired to not want to engage in hypocrisy. We've got a rationalization defense mechanism, but it takes energy to engage.

at the risk of rehashing Philosophy 101, you can support those values with non-religious reasoning

Non-religious, sure. A physicalist ontological reductionist? I don't think so. In fact, I don't even think they can proper define the term "moral."

Unless it's "self-interest," none of this serves as a basis for morality. The very use of the words "cheat" and "hypocrisy," presupposes some sort of underlying moral structure. That's only natural since, in the objectivist stance, moral truths are non-physical entities with an actual existence that underlie human consciousness. A physicalist/ontological reductionist is bound to deny the existence of such non-physical objects, and has to come up with some subjectivist grounding for morality that will undoubtedly be inconsistent with his behavior or beliefs. Subjective morality is great until you hold a minority opinion.

Oh dude trust me I already came clean on the slippers and took my beating for being a shitty husband. And went ahead and placed the order for when they are back in stock January 25th (wtf). But I was already planning to get her something else because I like for there to be at least *some* element of surprise.

Last year was her 30th birthday in early November and I went wayyy over the top for combo birthday/Christmas present plus a trip to Tulum so we both agreed to keep the Christmas spending to a minimum this year.
