Official Duke's Mayo Bowl vs. Wisconsin Thread

Disappointed in Chase Jones. Thought he would be better. Hate to say it but he looks too big for linebacker. Looks like he needs to get a bit leaner to increase speed.

Lost in the shuffle was I thought a very good game for the offensive line. Hartman usually had plenty of time, and Run blocking was decent. I think Walker would have had a really good game, as CBS often seemed to have a good hole but he wasn’t quick enough to quite get through the first tackler.

. . . the (Wake) defense had a good day . . .
I tend to agree with that, but 42 is the most Wisconsin has ever scored in a bowl game. Goes to show that football is a team game and offense and special teams have roles in keeping the opposition off the scoreboard.

I kind of thought the same thing. There were a couple really impressive blocks by the tackles and Chapman where they blocked their men all the way out of the play (and OB in a couple cases).

Weird game to end a weird season. Really pumped for 2021 and everyone coming back.

Wingfield is the Ivy

It's mind-blowing that the starting LBs put up almost 30 tackles, let up 1 touchdown when the ball isn't placed on the Wake 33 or worse(wisconsin had 6 of these) and the immediate response is "yeah i think they need more speed" hell the defense was one of the 2 reasons Wake was in this game alongside the receivers

I don't think the defense has anything to do with this loss...To make it clear....

I think in order to elevate our program we need more speed at the linebacker position. Smenda and Williams played excellent today. Let's make sure we are on the same page.

Sam had the worst game of his career but I’m not worried about him next year. We have a large enough sample size of him being a good QB. I’d like to see Hemphill demoted and us get an experienced DC.

Last 2 games were not good at all for Sam. Alot of missed passes to open receivers in both games. Just many bad throws and decisions. a bit concerning

Yeah, I'm worried about Hartman. I know he still has 3 years of eligibility left, but in the old days of just a few years ago he would have just finished up his junior year based on his playing time and he should not be doing things like throwing picks on 4 straight possessions. Add in his complete lack of running ability and I ....well I'm worried.

A Heisman finalist threw 3 interceptions in the first quarter today and was benched.

Option A - have this day die and have this game get lost in a sea of other sports highlights.

Option B - have the other team drop the trophy and thus create a little video blurb that will be played over and over the next few days to allow more and more random people to tune in and see that we got trounced.

"Option B please!" :D

Sam's record as a starter is 9-10. He has improved during his three seasons and has the potential to be very successful. He also has periods where he is unfocused, inaccurate and needs to see the bench. Clawson has yet to take that approach, even for a series. I hope Sam learns to eliminate or minimize those periods of ineffectiveness as he matures. Otherwise Dave will need to learn how to sit his starter for a breather or Wake will lose games it should win and remain a .500 football team.

The evidence would suggest the Clawson offense is at its best when we aren't afraid to run the QB. It's time to rely on a packed QB room. Wolford and Newman both had injuries, but we won games with their feet. I think we played afraid Hartman would get injured the entire year. In addition we can't underestimate the absence of Walker.

Option C - sit Hartman before picks three and four and win the damn game so the trophy is ours not to drop.

I don't think it's any coincidence that Hartman's last few games he's looked rusty. It would be impossible, with our schedule and lack of games, to get in any kind of rhythm. I don't think we will have to worry about Hartman...But I still stick by that we have some incoming guys who look to have more raw talent.

Sam just had a bad game, it's happens. It's a shame it happened in a bowl game with a national audience, but hey all that anybody but us is talking about today is Wiscy dropping and breaking the trophy. Sam will be a better QB for it or he'll lose his spot, I think he'll be a better QB from it.

Also my perspective. Really hope Walker returns. Good job overall by OL, particularly pass blocking.

Yep, Sam is a very resilient deac. He will come back stronger than ever.

Yeah, Walker returning is really key. CBS is a good back, but he needs holes, Walker can make things out of very little and has break away potential. I've also been impressed with Ellison the last couple of game, seems to be a tough runner.
