Official Election Month Thread: COUP falls short, nothing to see here

Hope everybody remembers that when Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump both wanted $2000 stimulus checks, Republicans wouldn’t vote on them, and Democrats wouldn’t hold up a military budget to fight for them. There’s the good ol bipartisanship we all love!

What's the deal? Do they just like LOSING over and over and over and over again and again??! :dumb:

Losers lose.

In their minds they're not losers - they're just victims of evil LibDem corruption and obvious massive vote fraud stealing Dear Leader's rightful and glorious reelection. Every setback just further convinces them that the world (Deep State) is against them, including traitorous RINO Republicans like the Supreme Court.

It's just going to be you, Sirota, and other roses who don't understand how, sadly, government works.

Oh we understand perfectly how it works, which is why we have a problem with it and you don’t. Of the two of us, i’m not the one who clings to a fairytale belief in the ultimate goodness of elected Democrats.

You claim to understand how it works while effectively being the old man yelling at a cloud. Focus on grassroots. This shit just makes you look naive.

It’s not clear that you understand what naive means. You and I are equally defeatist, you just believe that Democrats are well intentioned, and I don’t. How would that make me the naive one? You think politics is chess, and I think it’s a circle jerk.

"Cynical" is the word you're looking for, Shoo

Bingo. Guilty as charged. How can you trust the intentions of politicians who, historically, are nearly completely made up of the social and economic elite, chosen through a party gatekeeping system that demands elite social connections, professional success, leveraging ideology, where campaigning requires immense financial support and leveraging ideology, and the political structure itself requires constant campaigning, near total ideological concession, and an almost complete focus on the demands of the most rich and powerful constituents.

Is it any wonder that there are so few lower class, ideologically uncompromising politicians who can successfully beat against that current? We have such a broken, corrupt, elitist system and we reward the people who swim the fastest and make the most friends in that cesspool.

It's not a fairytale about the ultimate goodness of Dems, but the abject badness of Republican control of any part of the federal government at this point. You can dream about what should be but that's the reality of our current system.

You can attack Dems until the cows come home, but it's the GOP that destroyed the VRA. It's the GOP that is trending dramatically racist, bigoted and anti-LGBTQ. It's the GOP who opposes a living wage and reigning in corporations in any way. It's the GOP who want to eliminate the Dept. of Education and EPA.

I would love to have more than two parties, but at this point that's not possible nationally and any splintering of the Dems will give us more Betsy Devos', more Sen. Hawleys and more Trumps.

Ted Cruz wants in on the coup attempt too. So fucking pathetic.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/01/02/us/politics/gop-senators-josh-hawley-election.html

In a joint statement, the Republicans — including seven senators and four who are to be sworn in on Sunday — called for a 10-day audit of election returns in disputed states, and said they would vote to reject the electors from those states until one was completed.

The group is led by Senator Ted Cruz of Texas and also includes Senators Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, James Lankford of Oklahoma, Steve Daines of Montana, John Kennedy of Louisiana, Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee and Mike Braun of Indiana, and Senators-elect Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming, Roger Marshall of Kansas, Bill Hagerty of Tennessee and Tommy Tuberville of Alabama.

This is what happens when history books present the Confederacy as a worthy “lost cause” and we put up statues to honor traitors.

Interesting how many senators who represent Confederate states want to overthrow the U.S. government again.
