It's like pandering to a bully, they'll just get worse and worse. If there's no consequences for the great majority of these people (and there won't be) they will be even bolder next time. Of course most of these people are thrilled with what happened today. They've no doubt taken selfies of themselves and their Trumpite thug friends bravely storming the Capitol and then pictures and videos of themselves in the Capitol itself. For many of them it was probably a high point of their life - "we're just like the Patriots of 1776! Fightin' fer our Libertees!" They'll probably have framed copies of their selfies on their man-cave walls along with the requisite Confederate flag and Trump/MAGA memorabilia.
