BBQ definitely does not suck, though I guess you could argue super old school, primitive BBQ was invented by the Native Americans.

The whites created brunch, which is pretty tight. Nothing like a greasy chicken, egg and bacon sandwich with a bunch of bloody mary's that says "I'm super white"

hm, I could have sworn whole hog bbq (smoked in a pit in the ground or whatever) was natives too

texas brisket is probably the most white people bbq then?

Who are we giving the credit for Southern food to?

the south is not a monolith and southern cuisine unfairly gets a catch-all description but as one example a lot of the fine "southern" dining you would eat in charleston has roots in the gullah geechee traditions

The Spanish introduced pigs to the Southeast all the way back in the 1500s. Unlike cattle, they flourished — especially in North Carolina. Then, over the years, settlers from surrounding areas brought more pigs with them to the state. And pork reigned supreme.
The slow roasting method of cooking is no Johnny-come-lately either. There’s solid evidence that natives of the West Indies were roasting meat over wood coals back in the mid-1600s.
Most likely the Native Americans in the eastern U.S. used a similar technique and passed it on to English colonists.

hmm, so if the spanish bought the pigs, white people still get some credit IMO

It's pretty tough to think of a food that originated with white Americans that wasn't an adaptation of something from the old country (i.e. hot dogs) or a universal food or cooking style (i.e. barbecue). People have been eating for much much longer than white people have been on this continent.

Right, which is why old country food should defs count. Otherwise I'm not sure what you'd even consider white people food.

My people are mostly Swedish. Their food is weird AF. Though tons of salmon and potato pancakes are tight.

"white people" has become shorthand around these parts for a very narrow slice of folks -- much of which is class-based -- which is fine, but it does make for a lot inaccuracies when not reading for the shorthand

I know less about texas bbq (although i've been fortunate to go to some really good joints including Snow's!) but with the sausages/hot links as a big part of it there are definitely germanic influences

what's your favorite cheese? currently on a soft goat cheese kick w/ some jam or preserves on top w/ some crackers.

Soft goat is always good. I think it’s Trader Joe’s that has the goat cheese logs that are flavored with jam that are like crack. For hard cheeses, manchego is my #1 but I also really like a good aged cheddar.

Prior to his current job in store leadership, my brother was overseeing the beer/wine/cheese/meat segment of his Whole Foods store. Always comes in clutch at holidays or just regular get together a that he puts together a great cheese and meat board.
