2020 Carolina Panthers - New Season New Thread for 2021

Yeah, as a general rule, I'd never take a RB or TE in the 1st round. That said, I'm not sure I've ever seen a college TE like Pitts.

i'd rather take pitts at 8 and someone like walker little / jaylen mayfield / darrisaw / leatherwood / cosmi in the 2nd

like i get the point - i wouldn't touch ebron or njoku or other past TEs at 8

but kyle pitts is like the julio jones of tight ends

the bengals are seriously considering pitts at #5

Agree on Pitts. But Cincy is crazy not to take Sewell if he's there. They need to protect their QB, and I already like their WRs, even without Green. Boyd, Higgins and Tate are solid. If Sewell is gone, they should consider trading back and getting more picks.

Good if you dont want us to take him and dont want them to trade with a team coming up for a QB

2020 Carolina Panthers - New GM Scott Fitterer (Seahawks VP of Football Operations)

I was talking more in terms of taking cues from the Bengals draft decisions.

I think there will be a good player we need at #8 regardless.

If not Watson, who Carolina should trade for at QB
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/ranking-8-potential-qb-trade-170022333.html

I like Watson - he has "it." I don't like his price tag or long term cap hit. He could be a stud QB with little surrounding talent and little hope of help on the way. Fitterer's ability to draft well deep into the draft would be put to the test if we get Watson.

Watson and Mahomes were #10 and #12 in their drafts. Meanwhile, everybody is trying to ditch their recent top 5 QB draft mistakes. I'll still take QB's taken outside the top ten draft picks.

That’s an interesting link. But what would the Jags want for Minshew? Anything more than a 3rd and a future mid to low round seems like too much.

man i wanted to believe guitardeac but we tried to trade #8 for matt fucking stafford so this is all bullshit
Yeah, he previously posted this:
Tepper wants Watson very badly , if he does become available and is willing to throw whatever he has to throw at the Texans to make it happen. He knows to win you have to have a stud/cornerstone at QB. And yes, I have this on extremely good authority. As good as it gets.
Watson is now available. So by your logic, unless he has vetoed Carolina, he should 100% be coming here, since Tepper is "willing to throw whatever he has to throw at the Texans to make it happen." Since then you've hedged that there's competition from the 49ers, etc. And we've learned that we were in the mix for Stafford. So which is it? You said you had it on good authority that we'd do "whatever it takes." Maybe we'll land him. If so, kudos to all of us! Otherwise, your source is useless and you only mentioned it because name-dropping helps give you a board, and I'm sure real-life, identity.

Also, if we land him, it's not some huge secret that only a source could've revealed. It's pretty logical. We need a QB, we have good offensive minds on the coaching staff, Tepper is a big spender, Watson played college ball near Charlotte, etc. It would not be a shock for Deshaun Watson to become a Panther, and even less of a shock that ew're one of the teams in the running. Oh, your source revealed that Tepper knows that "to win you have to have a stud/cornerstone at QB"? Wait, this source is "extremely good authority"? Even "as good as it gets"? Such pearls of hidden wisdom! And here I was thinking NFL execs didn't value the QB position.

tepper wont pull the trigger on anything less than a tier 1 QB, like matt stafford, a 33 yo old injury prone QB with zero playoff wins

Good overview of the problem with taking a TE in the 1st.
https://fansided.com/2019/10/22/nfl-draft-tight-ends-noah-fant/

Eric Ebron, OJ Howard, Evan Engram, David Njoku, etc.

Based on my casual knowledge of the draft, it seems like the positions that tend to pan out in the 1st round are QB, LT, DT, DE, and CB. The positions you can definitely get midround are TE and OLB.

Kyle Pitts is better than all of those dudes by a country mile.

That’s not the question. The questions are if he’s better than mid-round guys like Kittle, Kelce, and Gronk and if he provides more value than a LT.

Chinn finished a distant runner-up to Chase Young in DROY voting.

He can play TE or play xyz WR. He's not just a TE. He'd immediately be the #1 pass catching option.

Quite frankly there's only one top 10 LT on the board. If Sewell is available, yes you should take him but I doubt he slips to 8. Slater is more suited to play guard.

Calling Stafford injury prone is just wrong. Stafford has started all but 8 games since 2011.

yeah, I think he's worth the pick at #8 instead of reaching at LT.

If we can get deshaun, get deshaun

If we can't get deshaun, get sewell

if we can't get sewell, get zack wilson

if we can't get wilson, get pitts

if we can't get pitts, get best DB available

if we can't get one of the top DBs, get slater

if those dudes are all gone get lance
