It will be hilarious (?) when Trump is acquitted and “totally exonerated” from this hoax, but his lawyers are charged and found guilty of perjury and contempt of Congress.

This can be said for the emperor- for a guy with anger management issues, he certainly hired the same hot head type lawyer.... and that's not a good thing for him.

Moving ever so closely now with the call for witnesses towards conviction.

The shaman and others are willing to testify the thought Trump ordered them to take the Capitol.
 
McConnell has "leaked" that he is voting to acquit. If there ever was a Hail Mary chance to convict, that's gone now.
 
It will be interesting to see who is called as a witness and put under oath to tell the truth, now that the Senate has voted to hear from witnesses.

Members of the House, who were near/with McCarthy during his phone call with Trump? McCarthy himself?
Trump's Secret Service protection detail, who may have been in the room as Trump watched on TV?
Some of the Qanon, Oathkeepers, 3 percenters or others who actually rioted and broke into the Capital building? The Shaman would make for entertaining TV if he came in full regalia.

But when it comes to playing hardball Dems always lose.

How do you win a witness vote and then decide to not call witnesses?

I guess no one wanted to miss their plane flights home tonight.
 
Democrats backing down on actually calling witnesses and just entering in a statement is exactly why they are likely to lose the house and possibly the senate and be in the minority again. Democrats are terrible at politics and actually using the power they have. Yes, witnesses wouldn't change the outcome leading to a conviction, but having as many witnesses as possible show Trump's mental state during the riot and his being gleeful of everything happening will just continue to embarrass republicans that continue to defer to him.

It's a weak argument to say, "lets just all move on and get to Biden's agenda to get things done". Clearly none of Biden's agenda will get passed either. Republicans don't play fair and have no real desire to legislate or debate actual policies. It's all about consolidating power and owning the libs. This is the same game plan that destroyed the Obama agenda; stop everything from passing, then blame the Democrats for an inability to pass legislation and get things done. The same result will happen again because Democrats never learn and suck as machiavellian politicians compared to Republicans.
 
Yep. How on earth does not calling witnesses help anyone? All they're doing is telling voters they're not up to the task of cleaning up government. And they're setting up the expectation of getting stuff done that Republicans will stop. They're not going to get five Republicans on board for anything major. Having this trial and calling witnesses would be the most bipartisan thing the Democrats will do.
 
I saw it mentioned elsewhere that the pubs had threatened to shut down all business by calling a billion useless witnesses unless a deal was made but I don't know the source
