Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Seditious Republicans march toward authoritarianism

Traditional conservatism is the political opposition. The majority of contemporary Republicans are the enemy.
 
Yet another reason why Trump won't get convicted and possibly why many of the insurrectionists will get away with it.
 
Like that money hasn't been moved to the Seychelles, Caymans and Switzerland already.

Just finished reading the "we're disowning you" letter from Kinzinger's cousins. They're Evangelical batshit crazy. This letter reads like a litany of Evangelical/Conservative beliefs - Democrats are the Devil's Army, abortion is the only issue that matters, vague socialism accusations, references to such Religious Right icons as Franklin Graham and Robert Jeffress, telling their own cousin that he has lost the respect of Lou Dobbs, Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, and Laura Ingraham (you can tell what network his cousins watch all the time), and on and on. There's even the commonly used Religious Right references to John 3:16 and comparing Trump to King David ("If God can forgive and use King David...He can do the same with President Trump").

Some of my favorite lines: "What a disappointment you are to us and to God!" "Instead, you go against your Christian principals [sic] and join the devil's army (Democrats and the fake news media)." "President Trump is not perfect, but it is not for us to judge or be judged" (even though that's exactly what they're doing to their own cousin). "When was the last time you proclaimed your faith Adam? (oh, we forgot you now belong to the devil's army)". "We should list even more grievances (a favorite GOP word nowadays) against you, but decided you are not worth more of our time to list them. We have said enough!" (and they proceed to rant for another page). "You have embarrassed the Kinzinger family name!" (the letter is signed by people whose last name is Otto).

With relatives like these, Rep. Kinzinger doesn't need enemies.

I don’t recall many good things that happened after David had Bathsheba’s husband killed.
 
So Kinsinger gets to have Thanksgivings going forward without crazy relatives? Sounds like a huge win to me.
 
It’s weird to me that Cruz thinks his excuse is a good one.

For a guy with his Everyman America first schtick, you would think that he would realize even flying his kids to Mexico to party it up while their school is frozen maybe isn’t the best look for a number of reasons.

Cruz just fundamentally doesn’t understand people. It won’t matter for his career which is at its ceiling anyway. He’s just a selfish asshole. He happens to lack the courage of his party leader to be one openly. That’s the key to success in the gop.
