I’d argue that Republicans have only done #2 during Sanford’s political life. They abandoned truth, reason, science, and math long ago.

Well at least his pro-life stance is more earnest than most Republicans. He can't masturbate to dead fetuses. More born children is good for the child porn and child trafficking trade.

It really is amazing at how at least a few of these people always seem to turn out to be doing exactly what they're accusing Democrats or liberals of doing. Qanon preaches for years that LibDems are running a super-secret child pedophile ring out of a DC pizza joint, and now a Trump and GOP official is caught distributing child porn. It's almost like they're projecting or something. Nah.
 
It’s all about building a false equivalency as a defense.
 
When your accusation is first and loudest the second, and true, allegation seems... less important or retaliatory. Almost the "I know you are but what am I?" Defense.

Which nazi had the famous line about accusing your opponents of what you are doing first attributed to him? Goebbles?? May or may not be an accurate attribution but the gop sure lives by it.

You mean the person who has had at least a dozen criminal charges filed against her in her short life, was found to have served pork sliders at a county fair that caused food poisoning due to "improper food safety practices" (and she was serving the sliders as an unlicensed vendor at the fair), and when she was arrested at a music festival for disorderly conduct "tried to twist away" from the police arresting her while threatening them that "she had friends at Fox News" and that her arrest would be national news, might be a crook who is ripping off taxpayers with fake travel claims to pay off tax liens against her less-than-upstanding businesses? Say it isn't so!
 
That's only 7 hours in the car every day for 90 straight days. That seems a bit much for a House candidate.
