My take away is did I wrestle Timmy in high school, wrestled in New England at 189. I played football at about 220, season ended and would cut to 189 for wrestling. It was a crash and struggle for sure, usually pissed off the coach for the first few weeks of the season where I had to wrestle up a class and fucked up his roster. Eventually though the workout of wresting practice is intense enough and being young it went from impossible to lose weight, tasty head of lettuce with salt dinner, to impossible to keep weight on by end of season. The whole thing is one of the unhealthiest sports there is.

What was your biggest cut? How about the worst cut (if there is a difference between biggest/worst)? How'd you do it? Ever miss weight?

It’s probably trying to get down to 170 at the beginning of the season after football, junior year. Practicing in sweats, slept in a trash bag. Woke up an hour before weigh in’s that day to run on the tread mill. Just barely made it. I don’t even remember if I won or loss that day, all I remember is almost blew the 3 pound allowance before the match after drinking a bottle of water and eating a power bar. After that I decided to wrestle up the rest of the year. There is a trade off you make between size and energy.

College was much easier because you started the process in September and they had dietitians to help. Also, nothing makes you lose weight like wrestling practice every day. I was able to do it over a longer period of time so by the start of the season my body wasn’t wrecked.

Never missed weight but a guy on my team did once and the coach went in on him so bad scared me enough that I never wanted to be the guy to let the team down like that.

We had to sit through a presentation with a nutritionist every year.

We also had to get our body fat tested and then certify the lowest weight class we could wrestle at.

My coach made us run to the hospital where the testing was being done so we could drop a couple of more pounds before weighing in for that.

I was dating a girl for 4 months and her mom made the comment after the season, “I just realized I’ve never seen you actually eat.”

If only we had put that much energy into golf or tennis, something useful in our old age. We'd have nicer looking ears too.

Highschool football slaps tho. Hands down the best sport when you factor in all of the benefits...

Getting our stadium ready for our first varsity home game right now. On a Thursday. In February. Because Covid is weird. At least it is in the 70’s.

I had no interest in playing golf in high school, but no chance I could have made the team even if I wanted to

Webb Simpson -- a year ahead of me -- won states as an individual one year and all the rest of the kids were country club kids who grew up playing

yea i was decent in hs but would not have made my team either plus i was trying to be the best at exercising

the doofus twins were on my hs team and can testify how stacked it was for a bit

Do the doofi ever post anymore?

The boards have lost a lot of great men.

I regret not being on the golf team. I ran track and played soccer, but it was more of a "this is the thing you do" rather than "this is something I want to do." Golf would have been way less bitches, but way more applicable to...everything? From scholarships to life-skills.

I was #1 man on my HS golf team in upstate NY.

I thought I was a good golfer and a big deal... And then I went to Wake Forest and realized I was a hacker.
