Wake Forest Basketball Recruiting: Juke Harris Commits!!

Not sure why Dubose would come back (although I would welcome him if he does). If he wants to get paid, he can go overseas and do it. While I would imagine he won't get significant money ($100K+) to start, he's better trying to work his way up in a professional league than doing it at Wake.

Exactly. He's not getting drafted in the NBA or G-League.

He has many reasons to come back in my opinion. He could continue to get free education at Wake and prove himself and the Deacs in the ACC. He missed more than half the year and didn't really get a chance to get a real season in the ACC.

A real season in the ACC is not worth $100+K. You only have a finite amount of time to play.

Unless there's a specific degree he's close to getting and can't come back for, he has no reason to return.

Maybe it isn't financially smart unless he is working towards a degree but there are reasons to consider here. One year's paycheck oversees isn't everything to everybody.

Playing a year in the the ACC is of little value when you have a finite amount of a career.

Something else to remember, if you work overseas, about the first $100K is tax free. Add to this, teams often pay all living expenses for foreign players.

If I'm not mistaken, Wake has adopted the lifetime scholarship. I'm not sure if DuBose's post grad qualifies for that, but if it does, there are even fewer reasons to stay.

I understand you and you make good points. I am not debating the logic of it.

With that viewpoint though, shouldn't all players playing high-level college basketball who are not good enough for the NBA exhaust their eligibility and go oversees and return to school after their playing days? I think a lot of schools give a lifetime scholarship.

College basketball at this level is special and you only have a few years to do it. I am not saying it's worth that money but I think it is something to think about for a lot of players.

Yeah I mean sometimes kids make irrational decisions. Those of us who are a good bit out of college can attest to how much we’d like to be able to go back, much less play basketball at that level. This is a kid who played for Houston Baptist his whole career and didn’t have a “real” season the one shot he got to play in the ACC.

From what I’ve seen of Hildreth and his competition level I do think it’s likely that he starts by the end of the season.

I think Dubose can contribute for us next year. He didn't get a full season and was out of shape when he came back this season. I like Dubose's game but after watching Hildreth's videos, I think he will take minutes from Dubose as the seasons progresses. I'm not sure about McCray's game, I just haven't watched him like I have Hildreth but having Dubose, Hildreth, McCray and Whitt sounds good to me.

If Dubose can get paid right now, he should probably leave. I'd like him to stay... The reason for doing so would be to increase his options. I suspect Forbes and staff can help him with that decision.

Good point. This is exciting times, really anticipating who'll be our next Deac to transfer in.. Forbes is working his magic.

I know we sucked this year and we probably won't be great next year but it is so refreshing to care and be excited about Wake basketball again. Thank you John Currie

Caught some glimpses of DuBose's potential in the last few games with those dunks... I think folks are underestimating what a solid ACC year would do for his overseas salary. He put up 11/5/2.5 this year despite the COVID issues. He'll still get over 20 minutes a game, and he could certainly drag his numbers into the 14/6/3 zone or better. Definitely possible to move him from Taiwan or the Greek Basket League (Childress) to something in Spain or one of the other more lucrative leagues. That'd be upgrading from an average 3 year career at $80k to an average 5 year career at $150k+. Missing year 1 is a blessing in some of those scenarios.

A solid year in a low level pro league would do wonders for him as well.

I don’t think Mucius is going to play SF with the current roster because I think Whitt, Williamson, and Dubose will play 80-90 minutes at the 1, 2, and 3. Williamson played 34.5 mpg this year. Whitt averaged 26 mpg in his 8 starts down the stretch. DuBose will play more than he did this year. Hildreth and McCroy will play the rest of the minutes.

There just won’t be many minutes for Mucius at SF but he’ll be a valuable sub at PF. How much did he play at SF this year?

I don’t think Massoud plays much if he stays.

Believe me, I love love love the minutes discussion, but with 4 open scholarships and other unconfirmed departures it is very difficult to project.

Also, you’ll just be proven wrong when the roster changes.

The only thing I feel safe in assuming is that Whitt will get 25+ mpg at PG next year. After that, it’s a lot of guessing.

Massoud just needs to put on 30 pounds of muscle and start playing like Devin Thomas.

Good point, he actually tried to expand his game by going to the basket. Unfortunately he was just too weak to finish. More strength would also help on the defensive end.

I disagree. He should add 15" to his vertical and play like Paul George.

That would be good too, but you have to be realistic. Might be easier for him to grow 3 inches and play like Joe Smith.

Every kid now a days wants to Kevin Durant, which means all these lanky tall kids skipping the weight room!
