F is for Fascism (Ferguson MO)

hard to imagine that he's not found guilty with all those cops that testified against him and how long after Floyd stopped breathing that he stayed on his neck

given the pretty fast verdict, geography, the political climate, and a guilty verdict in the Laquan McDonald case, I would be shocked by not guilty

I'll go with guilty of 2nd-degree manslaughter, innocent of 2nd-degree unintentional murder, and a hung jury for 3rd-degree murder.

Guilty of 2nd degree unintentional murder
Guilty of 3rd degree murder
Guilty of manslaughter

While I agree with this, the dude was clearly a danger to society and probably would have gone on abusing his power and killing people

both true

nothing will bring back george floyd to his family, and the same systemic racism persists today

that this ends in a carceral solution is not a graceful outcome, but he was a dangerous murderer, and this is what happens to dangerous murderers in america

But an interesting question about rehabilitation in the case of killer cops.

Like, just take away their gun and badge and qualified immunity and they might not be out there killing black men. Or at least getting away with it

What would be a better solution (serious question)?

to me, it's not only the lack of grace, but also that there is an element of self-reinforcement of the exact institution we hope to dismantle in the efforts to break it down, so there is a sense of self-defeat among all the available options of "justice"

it forces the reformists and the abolitionists to use the schema of their opponent or else go ignored

The best thing about this outcome is that MAYBE after watching his peers testify against him AND he gets convicted it puts a few more cracks in the opaque blue wall. It won't be soon but maybe more cops begin to intervene before situations escalate so dramatically.

yes, this I agree is something to be hoped for
