2020-21 WF Men's Soccer Thread - Yes, there is a Fall and Spring Soccer Season

I'm calling it now. Cinderella story, from out of nowhere, the WFU soccer team, decimated by half the team from the fall leaving, wins the NCAA championship with a bunch of youngsters.
(probably) all of whom will return for the fall.

If they win, I could see some of these players getting taken in the summer. But thats only if they do win/ go to the championship. Has anyone watched alot of NC this year? Are they good?

Any ideas on ways to get tickets for Monday?

Sorry. Just seeing this. Tickets are only being distributed to a small number of students and player guests I believe. If we advance, College Cup tickets will be available through NCAA.com.

I think the reason for this is that today’s matches aren’t being played in Cary’s stadium, so there were restrictions in place for distancing and seating.

Quick UNC Soccer preview:

- Heels are 8-4-4 over the combined Fall/Spring season
- Last Fall, WF beat UNC 1-0 in OT in their one previous meeting
- UNC is super-defensive oriented: in their 10 games played in 2021, UNC has not given up more than a goal in any game; they have 6 shutouts over that stretch
- UNC struggles offensively; they have NOT scored more than 1 goal in regulation in any of their last 6 games; they have been shutout 3 times this Spring
- In this year's NCAAs, UNC edged Charlotte on PKs (game was 1-1 after OT) and also scraped by Stanford 1-0

Stating the obvious based upon that track record, getting the first goal is going to be huge today (game is at 5 pm; streaming broadcast available on ncaa.com; the semifinals and final will be televised on ESPNU)

Pitt up 1-0 against Washington in the 85’.

Marshall continuing their role as major spoiler up 1-0 on Georgetown on the 82’.

So much for the theory that the 1st goal is the key

Better refereeing than Everton-West Ham. Books Carolina LB for foul early

That foul was the dude who already got booked. SEND HIM OFF

And immediately a high elbow. Carolina playing like a Gunn team

Our dudes look like the 18 year olds they are. Carolina's players look like hardened criminals who've spent the past five years in a federal penitentiary.
