the spin started when people started claiming that all 84 left because of calls to defund police departments (not here specifically, just online)

have any officers spoken up? any rationale given by anyone in the department?

Sending a cop out for literally all of those things was a waste of time/resources before 1/1/20. If you can handle the report ver the phone what's the fucking point. I reported a bike theft and a broken car window and they sent an officer out even when i just asked to file it over the phone.

JH and the so-called conservatives want to trim governments of wasteful spending but when it happens they fucking flip out

Or, you get to harass, assault, and maybe even shoot people without consequence, particularly if they are minorities or poor. Two sides, same coin, I guess.
 
A cop can just go to Sonic, arrest a worker and take his stuff, then lie about what happened. And probably get shit for free going forward. Pretty sweet gig for a bully with no skills.

Same here, minus the broken window. Officer showed up and was generally pleasant (thanks, white privilege), but their appearance didn't do anything. Gave the cops the serial number off the bike in a subsequent phone call, and they found it a few months later by accident, though it was mostly unusable.

I can't help but notice that they list of things they aren't doing does not include cruising around looking for drug users or minor traffic violations. Gotta let the public know that you are only out to harass them, not help them, even as you are begging for funding.

no cop goes to jail for doing their job. they go to jail for breaking the law. but you know that... i hope. unfortunately, that thin blue line is all too often opaque and silent about police officers commiting crimes.
 
So now everyone's okay with people going to jail for breaking the law ? Count me in !

Sure, but policing isn't something you want to be running as lean as possible in the event numbers are required like this past summer.
