Wake Baseball 2021 | Cusick (1st) + Fleming, Seymour, Menendez, Muntz Drafted

Two more Deacs get taken early today:

- 11th round: RHP William Fleming (Seattle Mariners)
- 13the round: 1B Bobby Seymour (Tampa Rays)

Also, some good news, Daniel Corona, who was WF's top position player commitment from the Class 2021 (and likely starting SS for the Deacs next season), announced that he is attending WF and not signing with an MLB team:

MLB teams drafted three others with WF connections:

- 14th Round TB Rays draft Antonio Menendez (Jays are savvy; heading into the season Menendez looked to go in the first 10 rounds, maybe first 5; Menendez gets hurt doesn't pitch and the Rays look to get him on the cheap)
- 15th Round AZ DBacks draft Shane Muntz
- 16th Round Pirates select WF 2021 recruit Daniel Corona (Corona already said that he would honor his WF commitment, but that is dependent know and how much the Rays save on their other signings, but the Pirates have the largest pool of money to spend on 2021 draft picks: $14,394,400 (FWIW, the Astros have the least: $2,940,600).

I would expect Corona would be a backup for Bubba Chandler, the Clemson QB commit. Chandler wanted 4M reportedly. Pirates saved some money on the 1st overall to use for Chandler.

The Hartle kid is a fool for turning down 2 million dollars. I’d be shocked if he gets that after 3 years at wake. Maybe I’m wrong but unless the kids parents are loaded it’s a bonehead move.

You have posted this thought multiple times already on this thread. We know that you are hoping that an 18 year-old kid fails. Congrats on that position. What a wonderful outlook on life you have!

Everyone here understands that you think:

- Coach Walter sucks and will always suck
- WF baseball sucks as long as Walter is a coach
- All recruits should take any other option than play for sucky Coach Walter
- You root for all WF players drafted by MLB to suck because they played for Coach Walter
- It's more important to you that WF baseball sucks so that you claim to be correct about Coach Walter than WF having any success in baseball as long as Walter is the coach.

FWIW, your asinine posts have turned me from wanting WF to replace Coach Walter to hoping that he stays and has success just because you are such an unsufferable a-hole.

With all of those beliefs posted with nauseous

Tim Duncan was the odds-on choice to be the #1 pick in the draft after his freshman, sophomore and junior years, but instead he decided to come back to MSD every year. That would not have been my recommendation, but in hindsight it worked out pretty well for him. In no way comparing their paths to MLB, but maybe Josh Hamilton and others like him at age 18 would have benefited for a few years of the college experience.

Coach Walter 100% deserves to lose his job. To think otherwise means you haven’t paid a lick of attention to Wake Baseball during his tenure.

Far more cases of guys who lose money and significantly going to school vs taking the money when it’s offered. Look at Keith laws timeline for this years crop of draft opt outs from 2018 who failed miserably.

It’s almost like the kid has total freedom to decide the best path for himself. Crazy.

Brock Wilken is tearing up the Cape Cod league leading hits, doubles and RBI. He is also hitting .337 (3rd in the Cape League) for the Harwich Mariners. Wilken is further raising his profile for MLB scouts.

Just missing seeing him against MY Bourne Braves at the end of the month. Adler's pitched well for them (Bourne) as a closer - 10 games, 6 saves, 1-0, 20 SO to 3 BB and 3 hits.

off to a great start.

meanwhile, will craig is now 1B for the Kiwoom Heroes of the korean league. (getting paid $371k for the rest of the year tho, not bad)

Deacs lose RHP Peter Huebeck to the Dodgers (he was a 3rd round pick of the Dodgers, and will sign an above slot deal of $1.2 million): https://www.baltimoresun.com/sports/high-school/bs-sp-va-gilman-baseball-peter-heubeck-signing-la-dodgers-20210723-ry2rlrcnebdotda7svmhjb2g3a-story.html FWIW, Heubeck played for former Orioles player, Larry Sheets at Gilman in Baltimore. Sheets' son, Gavin, played at WF and is now on the White Sox.

The remaining issue for WF baseball is Danny Corona. Prior to the draft, Corona announced his intention to forego the MLB draft and play for WF. The Pirates drafted him late (16th round), and have the most bonus pool money of any MLB team for this draft. The Pirates have a couple of other unsigned HS kids, including Lonnie White (who has committed to play football and baseball at Penn State); so, whether the Pirates have the money to lure Corona will depend on whether they can sign their other unsigned HS players. The deadline for draft picks to sign is August 1. If Corona does go to WF, it's expected he would be the Deacs' starting SS for the upcoming season.
