To everyone else, forgive me for asking Angus a serious questions, but I am really interested in understanding the anti-school mask perspective.

Is there harm in making children wear masks in school? Seems like applying the precautionary principle here, that while uncertainty remains lets do anything that might help, is the smart move. So, masks in schools may not do a lot, but they might help so we should use them unless some harm is demonstrated; a small probability of benefit out weights a zero probability of harm.

Also note that Europe gotcha (true or not) was only for kids 5 and under.

Yeah, I got the “psychological damage” response on Twitter from a really well know ecological statistician that is posting anti school masking stuff. He said we are “ruining kids [social] lives” because of mask mandates when I asked “what’s the harm?” I’m just confused by the resistance.
 
So how many months are we away from Angus discussing spirit cooking and child trafficking in pizza restaurants? 1? 2?
 
I feel really bad for my 6 y/o nephew. He has severe anxiety, OCD and a really nervous stomach...He puked just about every day last year in school because of his mask.

That said, despite my bias watching my little buddy suffer, masks seem to a no brainer for kids sitting in a classroom with 30 other kids.

Hawaii has the lowest COVID death rate of all 50 states, and it's not even close. The absolute lowest, 50/50. This is despite having a higher average age than the US average and the native population of those in Hawaii having high rates of obesity and diabetes.

Thanks Pops. He's the first kid in my family to experience so many emotional challenges at such a young age. Could have something to do with being born around some strange times, strange president, and 100 year pandemic. Hoping it's something like that and that he doesn't live with these issues his entire life.

My cousin just left her husband due to him flying off the deep end and exhibiting from severe bipolar actions, such as running up debt, multiple run ins with the law ending in multiple arrests, unable to reason with anyone...Just sad all around. This dude had the world by the balls...Makes a killing, a super, super nice and genuine guy, good looking dude, sweet hearted wife and kids...Just tragic to see how mental health can dismantle people's lives. Oftentimes it's the least suspecting people that it happens to.

Anyways, I digressed from the topic at hand. I think I'm just highlighting how many problems families are having during these really shitty times.

you know what else happened in June? Hawaii finally relaxed their brutal travel restrictions. Weird.
 
Was talking to someone this weekend about the vaccine- they said that they had faith that it would just work out naturally. That the body is an amazing machine that will handle it as it was designed. And I'm thinking, 'soooooo.....what then, I guess we shouldn't have invented penicillin? Or the polio vaccine? Just let whatever happens happen because it's God's will and it'll all just sort itself out?'
And this is an otherwise intelligent, successful, well-educated person. Like it's the Twilight Zone or something. It's just staggering

It's remarkable. I hear this shit all the time. "Only God will decide when it's my time to die".

So God created man, right? God gave man a brain. Many people used that brain to become a doctor, scientist, etc. Now these same bible thumpers conveniently neglect all of that and think these same men and women that God created are part of some giant hoax. And somehow Bill Gates and George Soros is involved or some shit? What?

Yeah I admittedly don't follow religion, but the idea that they can pick and choose which of God's creations are legit, and which are George Soros disguised as the Devil, seems a little sus.
 
The microchip thing is my favorite. We don’t need to put a microchip under skin, you carry one around all day and are glued to it and put all the info we need about you right up on the internet and even record you own crimes and shit

the image evangelicals/republicans really love is the old testament god. that guy was a grade A+ certified a--hole. probably a big 2A guy. no mask, kill your kid to prove you love me etc.

i'm more of a new testament guy. take care of the less fortunate. don't allow money lenders to steal and take advantage of people. be of service to your community. think about other people before yourself. I dunno... guess I'm the weird one.
 
All else being equal, would there be this level of resistance to vaccines if they were delivered orally rather than through some big scary needle? I sometimes wonder if it's just people being weirded out by needles that's behind the fantasy and poor reasoning.
