2021 Wake Forest Football Season

Anyone else feeling FSU will take us to the woodshed? If they don't shoot themselves in the foot 10 times or more, they should easily win. Either QB can kill us. I envision multiple FSU TDs of 3-4 play drives and 2-4 long play TDs. Their D speed will be a problem for our execution and ho-hum offense.

I could see a game like our last ND game at home. Couldn't stop them on D and our O had Hartman, Jamie, and Hinton and we had limited production.

No. I think it will be an even game between two mediocre teams. That FSU comeback was fueled by a lot of emotion. I don’t know if they’ll have that in two weeks.

... you do realize he covers App as well right?

Also if Wake got any votes for being ranked I would've raised a major eyebrow at why

I'm aware, thanks. I never said he should have voted for Wake - there's absolutely no reason for us to be ranked right now. My gripe is more about the lack of Wake coverage in the WSJ relative to App coverage, and his vote is another example of that in my mind. It's just a bit questionable that as an App alum and the beat writer that he chose to use his vote on them. When Conor had that vote, I never felt like there was any hometown advantage given to anyone. I don't feel that way about Joyce.

As others have said, just keep winning and we won't have to think about what North Carolina writers think.

It may be the most important game of Clawson’s tenure.

Thanks for the balance. I hope your right and I'm dead wrong. Maybe it will be like a recent home game with them where it was pretty even but the "shoot yourself in the foot" came into play enough times to get a win. They had stopped on a 3rd, or maybe even 4th, down near midfield, but committed a Personal Foul after the play which gave us a 1st down. We went on to score and win, IIRC.

I hope I’m not too right because I think FSU will win by 7-10 points.

Don't think it'll be that bad, but I expect them to win pretty handily.

I kind of see what you are saying on the App vote. I don't think it is a bias that is exclusive to Joyce. They seem to get a lot of love for not really doing much. They beat an ECU team that has sucked for most of a decade now. The best win since '07 is a uNC team that was barely .500. For some reason the writers and public perception is that App is some type of power house because they beat up on Central Arkansas or Lower Louisiana Tech or whoever each week. I'm not saying they are bad, but they just aren't a top 25 team in the country and never have been.

I mean what if ND sucks too? Not but a few years ago (2016?) we had that incredible week 1 matchup with Texas and ND. After that Texas win in OT everyone proclaimed that Texas was back when in reality, both teams were putrid. I think ND won 4 games that year and Texas maybe won 5. Moral of the story is to not get too carried away with week one performances. And yes, I think Wake beats FSU on the 18th.

What is the signature win of the Dave Clawson Era? One of the NC State games with Newman at the helm ? Belk Bowl win over Texas A&M ? Seriously, what is it ?

People are putting a ton of stock into one game for a team that was 3-6 last year.

Yes. What’s your point? We all know we need more wins.

We're returning 20 starters from a coach in his 8th year who has taken us to 5 straight bowls. If we're indeed "mediocre", I think that's more a statement on the (recent)past/present/future status of Wake football as opposed to an evaluation of this year's product on the field.

I'm willing to take +21 from those who believe FSU will "woodshed" or win "pretty handily" on 9/18.

What's the wager, boys (or girls)?

Has to be the A&M win

Name wise, probably. However, I think the best may be the Thursday night win at State. They were ranked, they had a highly regarded QB, Newman was making his first start, primetime national TV. I think that was a higher quality win than A&M. A&M was kind of mess at that point, interim coach, had some players out, etc.
