Those knuckleheads played 26% of the minutes on the court last season. Add Walker and it goes up to 36%. Bz didn't have to play that much if they were hurting the team.

What I did learn from last year is to never again spend 90 percent of my time with 10 percent of the players for as long as I endured without moving forward in the right way.
It's like pruning a tree. You get rid of the weeds, and healthy plants can grow.
It wouldn't take much for Bz to name some names and talk about how hard CJ and McKie have been working in the offseason and how they're the leaders of this team. Or how Carson is developing as a big man or how he's looking forward to seeing what his freshmen can do.
Skip quoted Thoreau.
Bz doesn't even know the correct definition of pruning.
Who cares if he casually bashes players. Grobe does it all the time. Those guys clearly were major problems well beyond what most of us even know. We basically had 2 different teams last year, the ones who wanted to work hard and learn and the renegades.
Look at the 2 players who represented us Tuesday at ACC Media Day and tell me that they dont buy into what Coach [Redacted] and Company are trying to accomplish. You dont think if Travis had a problem with him he couldn't transfer to 95% of the schools in this country?

I've never seen a coach blame everything on the players like Bzz does. Now he's blaming lack of success on the fact he spent too much time on a couple of knuckleheads. Shouldn't a head coach at this level know that already?
It all might be true and maybe that's a good thing, I don't know, but it seems odd. Part of me likes the fact he calls them out, but part of me just cringes about it worried that this can't be a good thing.
Of course he isn't afraid. It's his built in excuse for the season.
This was in response to the question:
"How frustrating was last season and how challenging is it to try and change the culture of a team to get the talent to shine through?"
His answer was "we kicked off some players". Not a good answer.
Many people said this about JTT as recently as April/May. Lots of it came about when Ari transferred. In fact, people pointed to JT as somebody that bought into Buzz's system in complete contrast to Ari not buying into the system.
Whoops.
I like the spend 90% of my time with 10% of the knuckleheads thing, and how he still actually talks about them 90% of the time
damn straight. after the worst season in wake history and the worst in major college basketball history, the fan base really needs to be re-energized. we need something to get excited about. reading the excuses about why last year sucked won't do it. it will just keep the depression going. he needs to be talking about how excited he is about the players he has. no veiled bs about maturity and how its better now. he needs to talk about how hard the team is working and specifics about what they are working on and the small and large successes he is seeing.
Thats the thing though. Everyone keeps asking him about last year. I agree he needs to move on, like we all do. I imagine you wont hear much about those players once this season starts.
