Back in my Sunday paper comic reading days as a ten year old or whatever I thought Garfield was embarrassing next to Calvin and Hobbes. C and H was a bit artsier (for a comic) and definitely funnier and better drawn where Garfield was like 6 panels of a cat under a blanket bitching about it being Monday. I think it was a calculation to sell merchandise to horribly unfunny people.

Boomers and old Gen X devoid of new ideas trying to revive what they liked as a kid.

But all I remember is a lazy cat who hates Mondays and likes lasagna mocking anybody who gave a shit.

I just got an alert: The Milhouse Biopic script is ready.

how many posters did you go through in your mind before you settled on milhouse

That same kid just told me that she can't wear a flannel shirt because she looks too much like Ed Sheeran and now she's definitely getting an A for the semester.

How important is it to you/your family that you’re siblings are involved in the christening or named godparents? Is there another honorific that could be given to them that shows their importance and place in your kids’ life that doesn’t involve their participation in the christening?

It seems like a lot of the pressure is coming from your wife’s side of the family, is she of the same mind (maybe to a varying degree), or is this a potential area where boundaries could be set?

What weight to you and your wife place on the sacrament? Is it of such that this decision of forcing the issue of how/in what faith tradition you would raise your children, or do you view it more as symbolic and a separate issue?

All excellent questions. I feel like you may have dealt with this before.

for some reason I always bee-lined for the Garfield comics at the annual school book fair

that and the Guinness Book of World Records

yeah I had a few Garfield books, most of the C&H ones, and a fair amount of Foxtrot ones. I later bought the complete Far Side on sale.

Had to get that yearly update of all of the World Records so I could try to figure out how I could angle my way in.

I usually got "Peanuts" comics at the book fair. And John Bellairs books.
