2021 Football Coaching Carousel

If LSU was smart, they’d make a run at DeMeco Ryan. That school recruits itself but a young coach with ties to the area would absolutely rake.

I guess LSU is in a class of schools that pays absurd money for coaches, but seems like working college is so much more work than the NFL with all the recruiting responsibilities

no idea what he gets paid now

man, I wouldn't begrudge Clawson for leaving for a big job, but would be pretty pissed if he went to VT.

1. LSU (most pressure, but most upside)
2. USC
3. Washington (Petersen showed you can make it a contender)
4. TCU ( Texas recruits and will be the top 2 team in the future Big 12)
5. VT
6. WSU
7. Akron
8. FIU

As a University of Akron graduate, I find it hard to believe that any DI coaching job in Florida is worse than the Zips head jig.

Well Butch Davis just accused the admin at FIU of sabotaging the football program, so FIU might be the one D1 job in FL that would be worse.

Let’s steal the 4 star WR who flipped to VT if he gets in the portal.

Oh I have no doubt, just annoying seeing his name pop up on lists. his pic is the main one on The Athletic frontpage right now.

“Keep in mind he has a super-experienced team right now, and the Demon Deacons will likely slip back in 2022. The timing might be ideal to make the jump now.”

Do they even bother looking at a depth chart?

Of course not. The lazy assumption is that this season is an aberration.

You know a smart person would look at all the seniors we recognized Saturday night and realize how few of those were actually impact players. Don't get me wrong we had some guys take Truist Field the last time Saturday night that we will miss a lot, but to be a program "that is having such a good year because of all our old players," most of those guys that got recognized will not be missed for their on field contributions. Fox, Kamara and Ja'Sir, who else I am missing from that group? I know Roberson might go pro, Sciba might too?

Not disagreeing, but Fox is a menace. Kamara less so, but he plugs the middle a bit.

We'll miss Sciba for sure and Roberson, but if Donovan comes back, and we work him and Perry together with Morin and Williams on the inside...I think we'll be fine. I actually think Miles will be our biggest loss on both sides of the ball. Hopefully we can get a few quality experienced guys via the transfer portal to help on defense.

You and me. I am truly amazed at how many VT fans think that Clawson going to them is a no brainer and the fact they believe their facilities are light years ahead of ours.

Definitely agree with that. I'm not throwing off on those seniors, I know each of them has made an impact on our program during their time. However, take a guy like Royce Francis for instance. He was seeing a good bit of PT a couple of years ago if I remember correctly, so you'd think he'd be a good contributor the last 2 years in a program like ours, but he's barely seen the field. Have we benefited from the Covid year and having some mature guys, sure we have, but we've got a lot of younger talent too. Speaking of Defensive End, it's really been big for us to be able to move Bothroyd back outside after having to play him inside last year. He's too small to play Tackle, but he's stout dude at End.

Miles is one of few DT’s we’ve ever had (maybe since Fred Robbins)- who can take on a double team. Complete game changer for us on defense. We probably have hardest time recruiting that position and transfer portal makes being able to get guys like that on our team possible. Doubt Miles would have been a fit for us out of high school but he went to ODU and developer into a likely a NFL DT.

If Miles was 4 or 5 inches taller he'd be at a school like Bama or Georgia, that's the only thing he's missing. Guys that big and can move really well are hard to come by.

There aren't many 6-5 DTs. Miles Fox is a little bigger than Aaron Donald.

No, they're aren't and that's why you see those guys at the premier programs. What's the Davis kid at UGA, 6-4 or 5 and about 350lbs? It's a hard position to recruit because you need a guy that's at least around 300lbs, isn't a slug and can move well and if you get those guys sometime you have to move them to O-line. Phil Haynes was recruited as Defensive Tackle initially I think. We've had some others too that got moved over the years.

Edit to add: Bama's 3 deep at defensive tackle has 3 guys listed at 6'3" or taller and all over 300lbs.

BTW, Jordan Davis was a low 3-star from Charlotte.
