2021 Football Coaching Carousel

if you really want a certain coach is it worth getting better recruits vs getting the man you want? I mean, Alabama waited a long time to get Saban and it's worked out ok for them.
 
Are Clawson and Ruggiero a package deal in these scenarios? I tend to remember quite a bit of rage when Clawson was running the offense and Rugerio was just the QB coach. Would we ever consider Rugerio to be a replacement head coach for Clawson should he leave?

The early signing day changes the calculation a bit, but I obviously think you hire the guy you want regardless of timing.

All things being equal, however, the guy whose season is over is a lot more available for conversations than the guy who is preparing for a conference championship game.
 
Ruggiero said he doesn't want to be a head coach. Seems like he'd be a high priced assistant tagging along with Clawson.
 
Are you guys really worried about VT. I don’t think he goes to another ACC he just won’t do it.
 
My only concern is Wake wins out and gets snubbed for Cincy or a 2-loss team and Clawson decides the deck will forever be stacked against Wake and moves onto a name brand.

I’d be totally fine with that honestly. 12-1 with another ACC title and a major bowl game is realistically about the best season we could ever hope to have with Clawson or anyone else coaching.
 
Between facilities, roster, money flowing into the program, and our baller ass AD we are in such a better position to hire a coach than we were in 2013. If Clawson decides he wants another challenge I’ll be bummed to lose him but still really fucking excited about Wake football.

Yeah where do I sign up for this? 12-1 with another championship under our belt and then get to play a NY6 game vs Michigan or somebody? Yeah I'll take that.
 
my main exposure to Tucker is as not-good DC of the Bears

feels shortsighted to give a career 16-13 coach 100M

Grobe isn't part of the 10%... he made as much money at Wake as Petrino made at Arkansas. There is no indication that Grobe lost any money by staying at Wake.

There is also no indication that Clawson will need to be part of the 10% in order to stay at Wake. Hard to imagine Wake not matching pretty much any reasonable offer.

That feels like a mistake.

Not because I don't think Tucker is a good coach... I just don't think you ever want to lock up that much cash in a head coach (unless maybe you are A&M, Alabama, LSU, Texas, etc).

Has anyone seen or heard from Grobe in years? Kind of surprised he's not getting interviewed since he was here the last time we had a real run.

there have been a couple of stories on Clawson this year but feel like Grobe got a lot more hype during the OB year and he was AP COY. No way Clawson gets that this year, I'm afraid. It'll be Tucker, Smart or Fickell.

If we win the ACC Championship, I suspect Clawson will win some national awards. Tucker would need to beat OSU (not happening).

That team didn’t threaten the status quo. It was a feel good story.

Bingo - that is my fear as well but atleast in that scenario atleast he won the league. Hey- if we win league I’m okay with him. My biggest fear is we finish 0-2 due to mounting injuries and miss out on Charlotte and DC has offer he can’t refuse for program where he would have more depth. At this point- anything less than winning Atlantic division is a failure.
 
Grobe is paying attention to this season I’m sure and thrilled for us. Will he on the sidelines or on camera during a game? Don’t think that’s his personality and he’s all class- doesn’t take away from DC.
