Wake at Clemson - Saturday 11/20 Game Time Speculation

+1000. Again I respect and appreciate all that he and Redd have done for Wake football. They represent Wake and the team well off the field. But they are average football players at best and get exposed constantly by good offenses. Case in point - Army (for Taylor especially). Army. Best of luck to them both but we need some hitters with some fire back there.
 
Hartman has been shell shocked since UNC, despite the NCSU win. Taylor continues to be an Achilles heel on defense. Why the opposing QB doesn’t target whoever Taylor is marking on every play is beyond me.
 
i think jasir taylor is actually a lot better than it seems bc we often leave on an island against the opponents best receivers, which is very conducive to looking bad even when you are playing well.

(vs someone like zion keith who nc state actually did target just about every time he was playing man coverage at corner)

Gift wrapped in the sense that Clemson was marching down the field and about to score and we forced three turnovers to give our O a chance and they shit the bed.

I’ve been super critical of our D and they’re our weak link, clearly, but they did enough for most of the game to give us a shot at winning and the O didn’t take advantage.

Frankly, this is a top to bottom loss. Special teams, Offense and Defense all played poorly across the board. Have to regroup and beat BC next week. I’m really worried that we’ve been exposed and teams know how to beat us now - run the ball on O and send a ton of pressure on our QB. Everything seems to fall apart after that.

after looking through the box score i actually think the offense did really well outside of the fumbles and false starts.

we got our schemed in the first quarter by venables (aided by a missed PI or two) but adjusted and after that had productive drives every single time outside of the two fumbles despite bad field position. if we can do the same against BC and can just hold onto the ball i think we’ll put up a ton of points.
 
We moved the ball OK after the first two drives. If there was a legit chance be of PI, Clemson could not blitz nearly as much. Lol if you think their coaches don’t understand the home field advantage.

Our receivers consistently beat their coverage. We have almost no running threat and we could not do the mesh as much due to pressure.

The back to back fumbles was an absolute killer. If we scored there, the game would have been completely different. Turnovers changes the whole game there.

Sucks but get ready for BC and we win the Atlantic. That will be a tough game.
 
pretty much knew the game was over after the Turner fumble and subsequent TD

i think Hemphill is gone at the end of the year

at least BC lost to FSU and already has a bowl locked up, that's about the only positive from today other than healthy Roberson
 
I have been a Wake fan waaaay too long. This game was exactly as I feared it would be. We looked like boys playing in a men’s league. Sorry, I can’t help myself. I hope we can bounce back next week.
 
One positive next week is that BC’s staff has yet to go against the RPO/Mesh since we didn’t play them last year. Really hope for noon kick next week with stands 30% full.

Yes. Today Venables and Clemson's 5 * D-line and no DPI/defensive holding calls got the Wake offense away from it. You can't do the RPO if the pass part is unusable.

Somehow we have to elevate our recruiting and I don't how that happens. But that's the only way you win these type games.

Win the conference this season. Show recruits that they can play at Wake and compete for championships.
