Wake @ BC 11/27 – Noon ESPN2

I think Turner is a good short yardage back. His touchdown was evidence of that. It's not unusual for short-yardage backs to have lower YPC. Their job is primarily to get the tough yards. And Turner is averaging 4.1 YPC on the season.

Ellison is the best runner on the team, and CBS is probably the best all-around player we have at the position. Having either one of them back for BC will be huge.

Can anyone confirm that Clawson indicated that Ellison would be available for this game?

we don't lose anything with Cooley in there. He is a tough to bring down. Would like to see him get more carries.

I expect that we will after the Clemson game. I don't think the depth chart has come out, but I'm guessing he's on it with an OR between him and Turner.

He's a great running back but he hasn't built up the chemistry with Sam that Ellison and Beal-Smith have. The mesh point chemistry is extremely important for the success of our offense

Good teams win at BC with a division title on the line.

Great teams roll at BC with a division title on the line.

No, you're comparing yards per play which includes pass plays. 3.2 yards per carry is not great or even good, but it's not terrible.

Clemson's defense gives up 2.86 ypc. So yes, that's above average. It doesn't mean it's good.

It's kind of like this, when we run the ball on first down and we get 3 yards, I'm not thinking "oh yeah" and I'm not thinking "oh crap."

Turner is our third string back. With the first two guys out, he started last Saturday. Do not get that obsession over his average ypc given he ran a total of 6 times, including a one-yard touchdown. You do not get credit for running beyond the goal line.

Take away the touchdown (unless you want to penalize him for it) and he averaged 3.6 yards per carry, plus the touchdown, agains the best defense we will play this season. Of far greater concern is his fumble, which I suspect will limit his carries this coming Saturday.

Yes. In his post game presser, Clawson identified that fumble as being particularly crucial. WF went from down 7 with the ball and some momentum to down 14 and playing uphill for the rest of the game. He also underscored EIGHT TOs in the last 3 games as being uncharacteristic and damaging.

3 of those turnovers coming the snap right after us getting a turnover.

that is a good point but a lot of reps in practice would help with that. He is a bull.

We really need some momentum back on our side this weekend. Ever since the UNC game it seems like we've been sputtering despite the great win against NC State.

I fully expect BC's defense to do the same thing that Clemson did to us from a scheme standpoint...bum rush Sam to disrupt and disorient our methodical slow mesh offense and try to get our O out of rhythm before we hang two quick scores on them. We punted on our first four drives against Clemson. Granted Clemson's DL is very good and BC's isn't nearly as talented, they're not bad from what I can tell.

Warren should earn his money on Saturday. Watch BC when they send pressure. It's from all over, but generally speaking, just like us, they are poor at tackling and can't get to the edge. We need to take full advantage of this and also throw the ball a lot (their secondary looks bad to me).

Good to great. We can be good and beat BC. We would then need to be great to beat Pitt. LFG Deacs!

WF's first quarter last week:

One rushing attempt (for 3 yards)
four sacks (negative 19 yards)
3-8 passing (26 yards)
two false starts (negative 10 yards)
four punts

0 net yards gained

Obviously we need to start better than that. Establishing something of a run game would be a good start.

A little swing pass or a screen (which we never seem to run) would have helped. Looking at their rush you can't sit back in the pocket every play. hopefully we get a bit more creative this weekend.

Yeah I don’t get why we didn’t try that - worked well against UNC and State. A screen isn’t going to work bc they’re too fast but just a quick swing pass would’ve been nice for 2 yards

Looks like most have written us off to continue our normal November death spiral now.
