2021 Football Coaching Carousel

A&M likely has the #1 recruiting class in the country coming in next year. So that's one thing in his favor.

I mean, you are splitting hairs between Bama, A&M, & UGA. Those would be the clear cut top 3, in varying order, depending on which site you use.

The point I was making is that Fisher is recruiting very well and that's a big reason why he is a sought after and highly regarded coach.
 
Twitter saying Elliott to UVA & Elko to Duke. Not confirmed... But probable.

I was really hoping Jason Garrett would be Duke's next coach.

Oh well.

He won’t even finish the season ranked in the top 25 after we beat them sans Elko.
 
The AD at LSU is the same guy that brought Jimbo to A&M and they are good friends from their time together at LSU in the early 2000's. That's the real connection there and why LSU was willing to offer such an enormous contract.
 
Went over to the TexAgs boards and they have a thread called "Ruggiero LSU" which made me LOL. Not much there on Elko potentially leaving (or rather, no meltdown yet)
 
We are coming off a 10-2 season and ACC CG appearance. Duke gave up 53 PPG in November and was winless in conference. Elmo certainly will have a steep hill to climb. Would hope that we can consolidate our considerable advantage over them in the next few years.

He should only make the move if he can ensure Bert and Ernie will be his coordinators. If the whole street doesn't have his back, there is no way this works.

Staff continuity is definitely key. Big Bird for recruiting coordinator.
 
Would Elko poach any Wake coaches? Usually coaches try to bring guys in that they have coached with before. I would assume Wake could thwart any lateral moves they wanted to with more money since Clawson getting a new contract would almost certainly come with an increased assistant pool that would be a fair bit higher than what Duke is giving out to a new coach. I would also assume he would only look at coaches that were on the staff with him at Wake which rules out Hemphill. Would Cohen, Higgins, Hunter or Tabacca be offered a coordinator job?

Yeah, it's sounding like Elliott is the new coach here. And it's sounding like the process was less than smooth. UVA interviewed Elliott last week, moved on to Poindexter, semi announce Poindexter is the new coach, then rumors the interviewing process didn't go well, then he announces he's staying at PSU, then bring Elliott back and hire him. And why would Elliott be interviewing at Duke, the worst job in the ACC after 2 seasons as Clemson's OC? Seems to me the rumors that he was not on safe ground at Clemson might have had some legs. I mean, it's still better than sticking with an in house hire from Bronco's staff. But it's definitely less than ideal. And it sounds like UVA pissed Poindexter off in the process. And Jerry Ratcliffe, who is much more of a UVA homer than Doughty is for VT, has been somewhat critical today, and the folks at theSabre are pissed at him. Seems like some of theSabre posters believe he was the #1 choice all along, but if that's the case, why did they not hire him last week? I guess we'll get a better idea when we see how well he salvages this year's recruiting class and see who he brings in from the transfer portal.

Highly compensated D coordinator at A&M or head coach at Duke? Maybe his wife wants to return to NC.
 
Out of curiosity who else was Wake looking at other than Clawson? Would be interested to see how they panned out over the years.
