the official new supreme court thread - Very political

From the WaPo article:

"The one person {Clarence Thomas} really listens to is Virginia," said longtime friend Evan Kemp, chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. "He depends on her for advice."

He found someone who’s a bigger creep than him.

"You would've had somebody more moderate than this."

Like Merrick Garland!

Murkowski, Romney and Collins on record now as going to vote yes for KBJ. Not particularly surprising (especially Collins and Murkowski), but with a 50/50 Senate, I feel like that’s about the best any nominee was going to get in terms of GOP votes (or will get going forward).

In 1986 Scalia was put on the court with a vote of 98-0. Even Roberts got 78 votes. The system is broken.

Republicans have set the precident that if the Senate and the Presidency are controlled by different parties, no Supreme Court nominee gets a hearing. Excellent government.

republicans have set a lot of precedents in the last twenty or thirty years. The pace is only increasing since the rnc changed their platform in 2016 to "kiss trumps ass and don't mention russia" and the double down in 2020 with the 1 page "democRATS bad. We're still maga!"

But but but the Democrats didn't vote for Nixon's hatchet man or the guy who put pubic hairs in Coke or the rapist!!!!!!!

No, they have set the precedent that if the Senate is Republican and the Presidency is Democratic, no Supreme Court nominee gets a hearing.

Let me tell you what happens if the roles are switched.

Can Democrats please run on a Republicans are against Clean Water platform? This is a layup.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki on Tuesday weighed in on Sen. Lindsey Graham's opposition to Supreme Court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson after he supported her previous judicial nomination last year.

"What exactly has changed since he voted to support her just recently — relatively recently?" Psaki said of Graham when asked during her press briefing about his opposition. "She has the exact same credentials, exact same qualifications."

These guys aren't going to feel any shame. They're just going to stop voting for qualified candidates for lower judgeships

Probably true but they will claim that the Supreme Court is a higher standard.

<narrator> it's not anymore. (thomas, kavanaugh, barret resemble this remark)
