Transgender Athletes

Boxing already has weight classifications which would help address the issue.

This is from a reply to the earlier quoted twitter thread about "biological sex"

I wish people who say its either XX or XY would just look at this chart, not even read it all or understand it even, and just to see all the different factors that go into things like sex or gender (I believe this flow chart is about gender) (EDIT: It's about both sex and gender if I'm reading it correctly). If they simply look at the complexity of the chart, you can tell that there is a lot more that goes into sex and gender than XX/XY and tallywacker/no tallywacker.

[See posts later in thread for a link to the full size picture.]

Pickle, do you have a link to the original chart? That one is blurry.

It's interesting reading some of that. I don't know exactly how all of those things are tested or determined, but I do know that I suffer from low levels of Testosterone and have had to take medication for that. I may have one or more of these characteristics and not even know it. The chart even addresses things like smaller than average testes or low sperm count. People who flip out about gender or sex could very well be a member of the classifications listed in that chart.

Sorta like the thread from the biologist that said she doesn't want her class to look into their own chromosomal makeup because she thinks dealing with finding out your chromosomes don't match your physical appearance or how you feel inside is NOT something that should be included in a 10 point class assignment.

That chart says nothing about Tally Whackers so clearly it is WRONG!!!

This is dumb, if Clarissa Shields fought Canelo she would probably die or be seriously injured. Even tho they fight at around the same weight.

Again- if you agree to be a boxer, especially a pro boxer, you are taking your life in your hands.

everyone mocks learning about the powerhouse of the cell until you need to angry at a schoolboard meeting

THIS. There is a safety issue inherent in this sport that is not present in other sports. If biological differences create such an inherent danger as to prevent transwomen from competing, is that the beginning of the end. Can we allow it in some sports and not others, and continue to call it fair?

You don't get into boxing with the expectation to have brain damage as DeaconSig believes. However, if a nationally ranked middleweight, similar to Lia Thomas having been nationally ranked were to fight against a woman, you could expect that to happen.

Size isn't necessarily the issue as we have seen in swimming, weightlifting and other non-combat sports. Certain sports like shooting and archery, it makes no sense to divide competition by sex. Even basketball wouldn't create such a safety issue. I do not see how a regulatory body could allow it in this specific example. Hopefully smarter people than me can figure out a way to make it work.

I mean, maybe I'm wrong, but is that not basically arguing the same thing that results in things like this:

At some point, even in the same weight class, some people are stronger and quicker and more skilled. Who's to say that those that CHOOSE (important word there) to fight the boxing equivalent of Lia Thomas could easily outbox, out think, out maneuver her in the ring. Or land a lucky punch. Strength or overall muscle mass are not the end-all be-all of factors that go into a fight. If that were the case, the training would all lead up to the weigh-in and then that would be the end of it. "He (or she) has longer arms, bigger biceps, quicker reflexes, so this match would be won by that contestant....now everybody go home."

Why can’t different sports have different rules? ‘Boxing doesn’t involve using a ball but football does so boxing can’t exist! It’s not fair!’

If boxing needs to implement extra regulations to keep boxers safe then they should and the decisions that swimming sports authorities make should have little or no bearing on boxing and vice versa.

This is such a strange line of reasoning.

A YouGov/Yahoo poll about Florida's new "Don't Say Gay" law is getting some media attention, as it shows not only that 76% of Florida Republicans favor the law, which is to be expected, but that a quarter of Florida Democrats also support the new law, and another one-quarter or so say they "don't know how to feel" about it, meaning that only 52% of Florida Democrats strongly oppose it. DeSantis and his reelection campaign plan to use that to try and divide Florida Democrats during the election campaign this fall.

Yes. LGBTQ+ issues are a wedge issue among Democrats. They’re generally for marriage but not overall rights with respect to labor, adoption, and other issues.

You mean parents don't think elementary school should be teaching their kids about sexual orientation and gender identity? Shocking.

I guess I fit right into that "I don't know what I feel" about this law. What bothers me most is it seems like it another one of those pieces of legislation, legislating a "problem" that never existed.
But does it? I honestly have no idea. And yes, that parents want 5-8 year old kids to focus on the ABC's, doesn't surprise me.
