F is for Fascism (Ferguson MO)

the lead-up to the encounter is pretty questionable too: "video footage shows Lyoya running from the white officer who stopped him for driving with a license plate that didn’t belong to the vehicle"

so was the cop just running every license plate he saw and comparing it against the vehicle make and model?

feels like some convoluted ex post facto justification for pulling him over in the first place

Cop had enough control of the situation to a) switch off his body cam, and b) aim at the back of the head of the victim. Disgusting.

Resisting arrest should not be a death sentence.

License plate bingo. Remove the computers cops play with while they are driving and this goes away. And probably keeps cops from rear ending folks with their horribly distracted driving.

They’re not killing to protect property, not in this case. Nobody would kill to protect someone else’s pizza and Pokémon cards. They’re killing because they’ve been taught to kill and know they’ll get away with it.

Yes. But... they are protecting future target profits by advertising that its ok to kill shoplifters.

It should tell us something that it’s been well publicized that cops will kill people yet people are still desperate enough to do things they know cops will kill over. (Yes, obviously cops will kill about pretty much anything)

There is a case pending in the Florida Supreme Court to get a final ruling on whether Marsy's Law can be used to shield the identities of police officers on the grounds that they are crime victims in the course of their official duties. The City of Tallahassee had 2 officer involved shootings where the person who was shot by an officer threatened the officer with a knife in one case and a gun in the other before the officer shot. The City was going to release the names of the officers, but the Police Benevolent Association sued, saying that the officers were victims under Marsy's Law. The trial court found in favor of the City, but the PBA appealed and the district court of appeals ruled in the PBA's favor. Interestingly, at least 2 Florida county sheriffs have filed amicus briefs supporting the City (i.e., supporting not being able to use Marsy's Law to shield officers).

Well…the old guy looked confused…

Seems confusion is a real trigger for police to utilize violence and aggression.

When an old man is confused and holding car keys just call for back up and take a three point stance. You're standing your ground now !

Body Camera Video Reveals Virginia Deputies Slammed 77-Year-Old Man Into Truck, Tackled Him

(the man died 13 days later of a brain bleed)

The Warren County Sheriff's Office originally said Ralph Ennis had fallen over the trailer hitch of his truck and hit his head during the arrest on April 2 outside a 7-Eleven near Front Royal. Deputies had pulled him over for driving erratically and speeding, authorities said.

The sheriff's office said Ennis had non-life threatening injuries after the fall.

However, body camera video from a Front Royal police officer who was at the scene shows a Warren County deputy run toward Ennis, who appeared to be stumbling around. The deputy then grabs Ennis and slams him face-forward into the back of Ennis' red pickup truck, which had a camper top attached. Then, he and another deputy appear to tackle Ennis to the ground.

Warren County Sheriff Mark Butler told News4 he stands by the initial statement his office released.
