Always a fun day at work when you learn what your coworkers are being paid

I mean, I agree that they are capitalist corporations doing shady shit.

But the formula market exists because breastfeeding does not work for all families. And there needs to be alternative sources for nutrition for those families or else the babies would die. That is not misinformation.

The proportion of babies that require alternative sources for nutrition is drastically smaller than the number of babies that currently use formula. The market is not an honest one and preys upon parent's anxiety over "doing what's best" for their children.

Is that better or worse than finding out what someone with a similar position at another company gets paid?

Worse. I know my company doesn't pay like other tech companies because we consider ourselves something else. So people in similar positions at other tech companies make much more.

Also, if your former coworkers came from the public sector, alot of times you can look them up and see their previous salary, so you can kind of guess they are making more than that when they come over to private.

Yeah, if any of you are so inclined you can easily look up my salary and feel better about yourself.

what is the best hymn??

My favorites include

A Mighty Fortress is our God
Christ the Lord is Risen Today
Amazing Grace
Holy, Holy, Holy
Joyful Joyful We Adore Thee
O Come O Come Emmanuel
Angels We Have Heard on High
Hark The Herald Angels Sing
Joy to the World
The First Noel (mainly just for the high harmony in the chorus)
Let us Adore The Everliving God

The hospitals really push the breast milk thing on new mothers. They constant reference to it as liquid gold and all he specialist to assist in breastfeeding, there is alot of pressure on new moms to do it. The market and hospitals may be at odd here, but I know my wife really struggled with the idea of the kids being on formula, like she thought she wasn't a good mom because she wasn't breastfeeding.

What you may be getting at, and correct me if I am wrong, is that the formula companies push it on parents as superior. The Nestle example is the most known where children got sick on formula when they would have been better off on the breast. Companies capitalizing on parents trying to do "whats best" is in every part of being a new parent. The number of my friends who have $1500 bassinets is astoundingly high, because they believe it gives their children the best sleep.

damn I wish I could eat smiles

The freezer of our refrigerator in the garage is completely packed with frozen breast milk.

There is a reason that hospitals and doctors push it as much as they do. Obviously, it doesn’t work for everybody and there are children who require formula. But it is one are where my wife was adamant given that she was able to do so.

I'm glad that my wife was both willing and able to breastfeed our kids for the 1st year of their lives...mainly because it was way cheaper than the alternative.

I will say from personal experience that there is a profound psychological impact when a mother cannot produce enough breastmilk and has to supplement with or completely switch to formula.

But that Cambodian breast milk is premo.

The day we were able to finally throw out the last bit of my wife's stash was a good one.

She was sad that she had to waste so much given it took a lot of effort to accumulate it.

I was just glad to have more room for frozen pizza and such.

on the list of "things I know are supposedly bad but how bad is it really?" is re-using a bottled water bottle

like, I don't even know what BPA is and why isn't it such a big deal until I try to reuse the bottle?
