Chat Thread: An Idiot Abroad: Spain or Italy or France !????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are quite a few hymns that are totally reasonable sounding whose meaning would greatly change given the context of your second sentence. Lot of “sweet baby Jesus love” etc in the Christmas season hymns.
These are part of a much longer tradition of sexy Jesus lyrics and poetry.

I struggle to wrap my head around the national formula shortage. The formula market relies on misinformation to sustainably exist. Some of the most evil and greedy companies in the world are involved. They've used unethical sales tactics to create a market where there's literally a free supply of a competitor's product.

I'm assuming you're talking about breast milk here? Because that's false. There's a cost to breastfeeding (it's extremely difficult for working mothers), let alone the disregard for all the women who just can't produce or have issues producing enough milk for their children even if they're ok taking on those other costs.

I don't disagree that you've got pretty much only some of the big "evil" companies as the major players in the market, but I don't know how to solve for that problem. Definitely feels like an area where we shouldn't rely on only a few companies.

Ok I see mako and BBD already touched on some of this.

Honestly has definitely felt 100% the OPPOSITE for us, like BBD said, where you get shamed more for NOT breastfeeding these days than the other way around.

Y'all should make some cheese curds out of all that leftover breast milk and serve it at the Super Bowl party.

Foreign formula would definitely help, that's a good idea.

If we want to have more mothers breastfeeding vs using formula I think the US would really need to do a lot more for expanding maternity leave too, but no one has the appetite for that.

I repped this to mako but it's definitely a harsh side effect of infertility that even after you adopt a child and then not being able to feed them naturally. I imagine those feelings would be amplified right now when people are unable to just pick up formula at the store.

I used to sit there and watch my wife pump like she was part of a factory farm. It's mesmerizing.

so long as no FOREIGNERS try to feed our babies their inadequate breast milk we'll be fine

wait, women are being shamed for breastfeeding rather than feeding formula?

not that I've ever seen.

I have read about in different countries Nestle uses marketing that implies that formula is better for babies than breastfeeding. But that's about it.

Breastfeeding didn't work for either one of my kids and she really fucking tried. She pumped for a while but there wasn't enough and it's really physically taxing.

Formula was essential to our kids staying alive. I have no issues with anyone using it. I'm glad it exists.

DDD, In the US right now I don't think there is a lot of misinformation about breastfeeding vs formula. It may exist with Nestle's marketing in other countries, but as Timmy said breastfeeding is actively pushed hard by the mommy industrial complex.

I'm sorry you had to go through that.

The hospitals really push the breast milk thing on new mothers. They constant reference to it as liquid gold and all he specialist to assist in breastfeeding, there is alot of pressure on new moms to do it. The market and hospitals may be at odd here, but I know my wife really struggled with the idea of the kids being on formula, like she thought she wasn't a good mom because she wasn't breastfeeding.

What you may be getting at, and correct me if I am wrong, is that the formula companies push it on parents as superior. The Nestle example is the most known where children got sick on formula when they would have been better off on the breast. Companies capitalizing on parents trying to do "whats best" is in every part of being a new parent. The number of my friends who have $1500 bassinets is astoundingly high, because they believe it gives their children the best sleep.

That's wild. Anyone who has had kids knows that them shits will sleep anywhere. They will pass out on a pile of gravel if they want. The only time they don't sleep is if you want them to sleep.
