Man, my brain is so slow in Spanish. It’s embarrassing how much we gringos typically suck at foreign languages.

If I speak Spanish I’ll be able to pick up Portuguese with no problem next week, right?

We have Edison Bulbs and pineapple bookends. But that’s about it. And the Edison Bulbs were here when we moved in.

We actually just want projects in order to increase our office budget so we can keep buying more snacks

You joke, but when you dont spend your whole budget, it usually ends up getting cut, so at the end of the fiscal year, thats when government offices start buying all new office furniture and computers and well ya snacks.

That’s actually what we’re trying to do now. They told me to get whatever I want for my home office

Meanwhile, I found out in an exec meeting today that we are on a hiring freeze, travel freeze, team building spending freeze, merit increase freeze, and our president (awesome woman) has aggressive breast cancer. Lovely day.

The father of the girl I dated in college worked for the VA and every year he got either new computer equipment or new office furniture to eat up the budget.

My wife has told me about rooms at CDC with Aeron chairs that have never been used.

When I worked for the moving company we did a lot of government office moves and would hold items in storage for the GSA until they could be auctioned. We had probably 50 flat screen TVs still in boxes back when they cost about $1200 a pop. We had units and units of furniture that would air for years.

It’s just a bad system that promotes spending just to guarantee the same amount the next year. Seems like any unused funds could go into a reserve for bigger ticket items and then use a 5 year average of spending to set the budget.

Your mommy and daddy give you 10 dollars to open up a lemonade stand. So you go out and you buy cups and you buy lemons and you buy sugar. And now you find out that it only costs you nine dollars. So you can give that dollar back to mommy and daddy, but guess what? Next summer...

not wrong but it's not like private companies don't spend silly amounts on similar things
