Interested in an earnest, non tunnels discussion of the Atlantic article: https://www.theatlantic.com/newslet...uber-ride-share-prices-high-inflation/661250/

Seems relevant to our daily palma complaints about the price of Uber. I have thoughts but I won’t weigh in yet.

Nice, the Fed to the rescue

This isn’t the end of the story. With inflation raging, the Federal Reserve will continue to raise interest rates several more times in the next six months, and could tip the U.S. economy into a recession. If that happens, oil prices will likely fall and rising unemployment could put more Uber drivers back on the road. At that point, ride-share prices would fall again.

i've read too many free atlantic articles this month!

but based on the title and subtitle, it appears the article is referencing how all that silicon valley cash that subsidized the uber rides and hello fresh meals and door dash costs and all of that has dried up

the golden age of silicon valley subsidizing my life timed pretty well for me given my income, student status, etc. at the time it was in full throttle

i'm not convinced we can't have smart-ride companies/delivery companies/etc that can still be profitable per order AND cheaper/more convenient than the old alternatives, I think a big part of the losing-money-per-order thing is that these companies were spending an insane amount on marketing/growth with all that VC infusion

it just might need to be on smaller scales, but in a world where you're a failure if you're not the next multi-billion dollar unicorn, nobody likes bootstrapped companies with only tens of millions in revenues

I didn't think I needed to since the legality of the entire setup is very much unclear

oh so if something is unclear legally, that makes it bad on its own? i hope u haven't partaken in any recreational drugs in states that don't allow them

i'm pretty sure they would have cleared this with their corp lawyers though, if they're a non-profit (haven't verified that claim myself but someone else said it earlier) they can provide meals to "volunteers"

Damn, when I was living at the poverty line I would totally have stood around for an hour for five free chickfila sandwiches. Great deal.

Trying to draw a connection between legal weed and a company trying to get old people to stand in the sun for an hour for 5 free sandwiches is pretty funny
